Alvaro Caviedes and Miguel Andres Figliozzi of Portland State’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering co-wrote a paper titled, “Modeling the impact of traffic conditions and bicycle facilities on cyclists’ on-road stress levels”, published by Transportation Research in October 2018.
Farshad Madani, Tugrul Daim and Martin Zwick of Portland State’s Engineering Department co-wrote a paper titled, “Keyword-based patent citation prediction via information theory”, published by Journal of General Systems in November 2018.
Sirisha Kothuri, civil and environmental engineering faculty member and TREC researcher, co-authored “Annual Average Nonmotorized Traffic Estimates from Manual Counts: Quantifying Error,” published in the August 2018 issue of Transportation Research Record Journal of the Transportation Research Board. The paper presents methods and results of analyses of bicycle and pedestrian estimation counts and estimation error rates.
Miguel Figliozzi, civil and environmental engineering faculty, and student Nicholas Stoll co-authored “A Study of Bus High-Resolution GPS Speed Data Accuracy,” published in the August 2018 issue of Transportation Research Record. The research presented in the article compares bus speeds with general traffic speeds at specific locations between stops, concluding that high-frequency GPS data for buses is suitable transit performance for passengers and transit vehicles.
Portland State University recently received a $99,860 grant from the National Science Foundation for research that will improve understanding of how pile foundations respond to soil liquefaction during earthquakes. Dr. Arash Khosravifar, an assistant professor of geotechnical engineering at PSU’s Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, leads the study.
Civil and Environmental Engineering professor Miguel Figliozzi co-authored “Minimization of urban freight distribution lifecycle CO 2 e emissions: Results from an optimization model and a real-world case study,” published in the July 2018 issue of Transport Policy. DOI: 10.1016/j.tranpol.2018.06.010
Sirisha Kothuri and Christopher M. Monsere, Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty, co-authored the report “Improved Safety and Efficiency of Protected/Permitted Right-Turns in Oregon,” published by the US Department of Transportation.
