ABOUT
tw: depression, substance abuse, death by overdose If Ellie had a dollar for every time she heard her mother say "Eleanor, if you were any more laid back, you'd be lying down", she'd be one rich girl. That doesn't mean she's lazy or anything, she just never knew what to do with her life. She grew up watching her sisters and wanting to be more like them, wishing she had Delilah's brains or Marley's talent, but she didn't really have anything exceptional about her. Her nonchalant attitude to everything always frustrated her mother, but made her sisters laugh, ruffle her hair and tell her that she'd get there one day.
But the three of them were her main form of support, because Ellie didn’t really know her father. After Millie had split from the twins’ father Robert when they were ten, she had dated on and off for a few months before she found herself pregnant with Ellie. Millie and the father were together until just before Ellie turned two but when they broke up, agreed to raise their daughter together, that was until Ellie started to see him less and less as the years went on, until he just disappeared shortly after her twelfth birthday. She carried on regardless, though bitter that he had abandoned her, keeping her head held high. That was - until her dad came back.
She had been struggling to decide what to do once she had graduated high school, and seemed to be in no rush to make her mind up. But then he showed up, acting like nothing had happened and he hadn’t been missing for six years, throwing his weight around and pressuring Ellie to make some sort of decision with her life. After a slightly heated argument with him, telling him that he had no say in her life, Ellie turned around and announced that she was taking a “gap year” while she figured everything out.
That year turned into two messy years of a high party lifestyle; drink, drugs and sex. A lot of falling in with the wrong crowd and a lot of regrets. But she didn't care, it was almost like there were no feelings in her body. She fell into a depressive spiral depending on substances to try and help her feel again. It didn't work. Ellie needed a wake up call and that came when one of her best friends died of a drug overdose, his death shook Ellie to the core and she took a good look at herself and asked "what the hell was she doing?" She quit the drugs, toned down the alcohol and cleaned herself up, returning home soon after.
Recovery was hard, but just as hard was deciding what to do next. Ellie felt almost worthless now and needed some way to bounce back. Her sisters were supportive of course, but both had their own things going on and she didn’t want to be any sort of inconvenience. But it was Millie that picked her back up, reminding her how much she was loved and what it meant to be a Rose, and showing her another kind of love - cooking. It hadn’t really been Ellie’s thing, so she’d stayed far away from the kitchen and focused on other stuff, but while back at home she spent a lot of time with her mother, learning everything she could about cooking and baking and then finally starting to feel like herself again. It didn’t take too long after that to decide that she wanted to try and prove herself, and following in her sisters’ footsteps, she applied to PSU to study culinary arts.
She enjoys life at PSU for sure, learning a lot of different things and Ellie feels that she’s starting to feel like herself again. But even more so now she’s found another calling. Video games have always been in her life, especially because of Delilah and her passion for them, but in her downtime Ellie found herself playing them more and more, losing herself in stories and gameplay and so many other things. For a while she lived and breathed video games, and when she wasn’t playing them, she was watching other people play them. And that’s when it clicked for her - she could do that? And that was it, she set herself up on Twitch and Youtube and quickly became a natural and got herself a decent following, and a decent enough following that she quit her bartending job and took up streaming full time.
Ellie is still very laid back about things, but with a little more passion in what she's doing with her career. She's a little over-protective of friends and family and always has some sort of sarcastic quip or dorky saying on the tip of her tongue. And she's often seen either out on her skateboard or playing soccer for the college girl's team.
