Marcus Maichel & Jan Mueller of X-Dream
I've been listening to X-Dream a lot lately, and even though I’ve listened to all of their music several times I still become more and more enchanted by Marcus and Jan’s work ... a good word to describe this style is Magical. Phenomenal Psy-tek... I read a lot of reviews that people gave of the different artists in Psytrance, and I found that a lot of people really don’t understand Psytrance. even those that like it never really know how good what they are listening to is. This is just my opinion, but I’ve yet to be proven otherwise… it seems that those people tend to like more of the melodic (Goa) psytrance (ala hallucinogen, infected mushroom, and so forth), and they just can't hear or understand minimal and psy-tek psytrance. although, there are some people that listen to it the first few times and say "I don't get it", and then the next time around they are like "oh my god! I can't believe this is the same CD!". like magic. Then of course there are the real fans (the die hards) that understand right off the bat. For some reason I have been thinking about that lately, and I thought of a way that might be able to describe the differences, and why they can't 'hear' it. and perhaps a way for them to be able to hear it. Think of psytrance like if it was a painting... In melodic type psytrance you see a beautiful painting. people who like it, and think they understand it (but actually don’t) will concentrate on portions of the painting at a time. they might admire the beautiful river, or the exotic tree, and they think its great. where as someone really into it sees the entire painting all at once, and understands how beautiful it truly is... now on to Minimal and Psy-Tek... This type of psytrance is a painting done in the form of a stereogram. The people that don’t understand look at the painting and think that it looks like the artist spilled his/her paint on it, those that do will see the beauty of what was created. And because it was created this way, the painting can only be seen in its “magic-like” 3 dimension. click on the following link for an example of what I'm talking about... http://filebox.vt.edu/users/kysutton/Bin/Stereo/galleon.gif (for those that don’t know what a stereogram is, the picture in the link is a 3 dimensional image of a galleon) Minimal and Psy-tek need to be looked at in the same way, but with your ears...
