Another interesting assumption. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the wonderful compliment of my analyses, too. XD I’ve done sooooome psychology studies. Not very many, but some. I have a Certificate in Cognitive Science, so I’ve taken some required psychology courses. That said, my foci in Cognitive Science were linguistics and philosophy, so most of my studies of the mind have been from those perspectives. I think I only took one straightforward psychology course that wasn’t cross-listed with other studies, and most of the courses I took to fulfill the certificate requirements weren’t cross-listed with psychology. I’ve only maybe taken three college level psychology classes.

The main influence I have in my analyses comes from my BA Philosophy degree, not anything psychology. XD Philosophy is an incredible major because it’s a degree which trains someone how to think critically, methodically, logically, objectively (as much as you can), and in enormous depth. You’ve got to know how to take in all your evidence to make a convincing argument - forget one detail, and you will probably have to rewrite your entire paper with a new thesis. Philosophy is all about the implementation of logical argumentation, and you get graded on how strong your arguments are (by the way, the grading is *REALLY* hard and tough. I mean, philosophy is a freaking HARD MAJOR guys). Arguing with other people who know how to argue is incredibly fun, but also incredibly challenging. But it means I did a lot of arguing for my case in college, and I’ve been told by my friends they’ve learned the hard way not to debate with a philosophy major - they’ll lose!

My analyses on fandom material are much more casual, less in depth, and less structured than were I writing a philosophy paper. Nevertheless, I know I’m influenced by the ideas of philosophy in any debate or analysis I enter. XD Philosophy really influences how you think. I always was someone prone to these sorts of over-analytical thoughts - hence why I nabbed the degree in the first place - but with the training from that BA, I can tell there’s no escaping from thorough analyzing!

Hi Haddock! Would you happen to know any good/reliable/accurate sites for the 4 letter personality test thing? Because my results constantly change (from ISTJ, to ISFP, and now apparently, I'm ESFJ) so I wanted to get a final verdict of sorts..

The most accurate sites would be the ones straight from Myers-Briggs itself or other affiliated associations... where you have to pay to take the test. Unfortunately, it isn’t cheap, so I would suspect that isn’t an option. I’m trying to find the one that I am comfortable taking which comes from a reliable source, but for some reason it’s not popping up on my Google search results tonight. I can send you a PM if/when I find it.

One thing to consider is that some people do change type for multiple reasons so maybe your personality is such you can’t get a final verdict. :) One thing is that maybe you have changed over the years (though I suspect from the way your describing your various results, that all these were taken semi-recently). Another possibility could be that you aren’t highly preferenced for I/E or J/P. The tests tend to give you a percent preference - for example, 42% S preference, etc. I don’t know what your preference scores are, but it could be the case that you are “borderline” between an I and E (that is, you’re an ambivert) If that is the case, you don’t have a high preference for Introversion or Extroversion, and you sometimes get one or the other on the test.

Hi! Um about your Opposite Element AU(which is amazing!), I was just wondering about some small details. Like Aang's name. Since his name means 'peaceful soaring', wouldn't it change to something more appropriate for the Earth Kingdom? What do you think it'd be? Same goes with Toph's nickname for him (I'm rooting for Pebblebrain, honestly) as well as everyone else's name, though I think Toph, Sokka and Zuko could get away without change.

Hmm, maybe Aang’s name would be Jian, which is Chinese for ‘build’ or ‘strong, healthy’. (Ooh, Pebblebrain, that’s a good one! I can easily imagine Toph calling him that haha.) Yeah I agree, the rest of the Gaang don’t really need a name change. Another character that does need a name change is Bumi (which is ‘earth’ in Sanskrit), who would probably be named Anil ('air, wind’ in Sanskrit).

Umm hi. I've been reading the httyd books (currently on the 11th) and I was wondering if you knew why they changed hiccup's appearance in the movie. I mean, sure, they made it to make him seem older, but what's with the change from red hair to brown, and from blue eyes to green? Maybe I'm just being paranoid and there's probably not much reason, but yeah.. I just wanted to ask.hehe

After all, one time I got bored and made very quick photoshop edits to correct those minor design issues, and DreamWorks Hiccup looks TOTALLY FINE with red hair and blue eyes. And that’s how his design began, if not how it ended. In my opinion, the changes in his appearance in this area are unnecessary.

I mean doesn’t he look fine like this?

The closest explanation we can get regarding Hiccup’s design changes comes from “The Art of How to Train Your Dragon,” where Simon Otto explains, “It was important to make Hiccup a normal kid who would not stand out in our modern world.” Another feature of his appearance described in this book is that “his final build and look is not as stylized as the other young characters in the film, which was a means to help the audience connect with him.”

As horrifically stupid as this sounds, and as much as I cringe to throw out this wild conjecture, perhaps that means movie!Hiccup being a ginger would have made him “stick out too much” and thus not be as visually empathetic and “normal” to audience members. Orange hair is a rare-ish hair color, after all. Ugh. That’s the best - though horrifically shaky - explanation I can come up with. And I don’t like it one bit, because redheads shouldn’t be all that weird, and I don’t think red hair would disconnect him all that much from how the art book and Simon Otto describe his design.

So basically I don’t know. I wish I knew. I often wish he were still a ginger. But hey. He’s got a great character design either way, and besides his hair length, hair color, and eye color, movie!Hiccup is pretty close to what we see in the books. And he looks great.

Perhaps better questions would be why they were so drastic altering other characters’ appearances… for while Fishlegs’ design change might be explanatory in some areas, I have no idea what was going on with Tuffnut. Where’s the close-cropped hair and ear piercing?
