Mod// Hi, I'm Yoshidda, but you can call me "Mod". I'm a person who's fallen in love with a minor character from the Sonic IDW comics, and I'm gonna tell you every headcanon I've built around them. HERE WE GO ! ! !
The first time we encounter this character is page 8 of the first issue of the short Sonic IDW spin-off comic "Bad Guys", which was a set of 4 stories taking place after the Zombot saga In the main series. In this issue we see Starline (former assistant of Eggman), infiltrate the "Everhold Prison", with a mission to free four Villains, which three of the four have gone against Sonic.
At first the Prison Warden is alarmed by the appearance of Starline, and questoned his arrival. Starline, with his newly built hypnotism glove was able to fool the Warden into believing he had applied there to be a security gaurd.
We soon find out not only had Starline hyponotized the Warden, but a nearby security gaurd aswell, explaining on how he managed to slip in. As they make their way to the holding area Starline orders the Warden to not forget the keys, whether or not he would've brought them along regardless is up to interpretation.
The Warden explains to Starline, that the position has been hard to fill due to who they have locked down there. The first one we see is mimic, taking on the appearance of the Warden to try and trick Starline, but is immediately outed and chastised by the real Warden for the attempt, afterwards explaining the crimes of both him and the skunk brothers Rough & Tumble.
Lastly, the Warden shows Starline, Zavok (leader of the deadly six), warning him of his powers unaware Starline is already familiar with him, as he is soon surprised that Starline knew so much information about him already and finding out they were somewhat acquainted.
Upon the reveal of Starline's Identity, provided by Zavok, for a moment he was a state of shock until he was put to sleep immediately afterwards.
Awakening later after possibly overhearing Starline's plan, he uses a remote to set off an alarm, but also lock the door. He then explains a that the door will only open to his voice and that they won't be leaving.
In a fit of both rage and disgust Starline hits him with the spurs on his heels which sends a neurotoxin through the Warden's body, paralyzing him in agony until he seemingly passes out the next panel.
Starline then steals the Warden's keys and frees Zavok, who frees Mimic, then Rough & Tumble, who throw the Warden into one of the cells while taunting him. With Mimic's ability he copies the Warden's voice which opens the door, then proceeding to escape. So far This is (at the the time of this post) the last time we've seen this character, and it is unlikely he'll get a second appearance.
(MY) HEADCANON/CONTINUATION:
This is the part where we get into the chaotic headcanon I've created for this character, but first let me explain how this version of him came to be. (Feel free to skip this part, details on Warden's new character will be under the first image of this section. ).
So a few months ago back in 2020, while working on my W.I.P reboot story "Lost Mobius", I was on the search for a new muse, this time I wanted s character who struggled with a Jekyll and Hyde situation, I had already tried this with a pre-existing muse, but it didn't pan out so well as I had already had his story set and ot just didn't fit him, so as of today I don't consider it canon. Then not long afterwards, the Sonic IDW comics team were releasing a multiple part story focused on Dr.Starline and his nefarious plans. So I was reading the comic, and that's when I came across the perfect character to fill the role I had been looking for, The Prison Warden. Immediately after reading it I went back through it and began piecing together a new story focused around him. The double dose hypnosis, and the neurotoxin, EVERYTHING WAS THERE!!! I just needed to come up with a story, and then I proceeded to create the "Muse Prologue Series" where whenever I add a muse to my roster I give them a backstory to go along with them, currently Warden is the only completed one thus far but I do plan on eventually creating one for all my muses, and those to come. Anyway getting back on track, you can find Warden's muse prologue HERE if you want to give it a read, (hopefully there are no errors). Now that you know what led up to this, firstly I would like to thank you for reading this far, you're awesome, but now it's time to go over what exact story I've created around him.
Now if you've decided to not read the muse prologue or are saving it for later, I'll give you a summary of the events that occur in this story in this section.
It begins after the explosion is heard in the Everhold Prison, then everything goes blank for Warden (which is the name I've deemed him with as in the comics he is only refferrd to by that title.) After a while he awakens to find himself in a small boat with no oars and stranded in the middle of some kind of ocean. He weighs his options on how to reach land, only to conclude there was no way and he just to had hope someone would find him. He looks around at the vast ocean and ponders its unusual color as it didn't match the sky, eager yet a bit cautious he decided to investigate the water by dipping his hand into it, this was a bad idea though as the sky became dark and a heavy storm raged in causing massive waves to crash down on the boat he was on. Amidts the chaos, he notices a dark figure on the other end of the boat before he himself was hurled into the dark waters. He satrted to drown. Until he spoted the figure from before floating calmly a bit infront of him with its hand reaching out for him, Warden takes his hand, but something happens. The dark figure began to phase into his arm and travel through it then spread into his entire body. This caused Warden excruciating pain especially in his head, then it felt like something broke within him. He began to chuckle which evolved into a manaical laughter as his eyes shifted to black and white, soon he was struck by a lightning bolt that traveled through the water, where he then woke up and gasped for air. He was now in a hospital bed being monitered bt some staff, in relief he sighed on how everything that had transpired was just a dream... but something felt off about him now, like some sort of timer ready to go off at any moment.
So I bet you might be wondering what exactly causes Warden to lose his mind and go insane, well here's my current explanation, whether you think it's good or not is up to you. So throughout the comic Starline uses his hypno glove twice on Warden, those already put a few tears in his mind, what cause it to go haywire was when Starline had used his spurs to inject the toxins into his body, that combined with the pain, flurry of emotions, the stress of it all made him lose it. However Warden has an iron will and refuses to let his mind competely shatter so the broken side of his consciousness now switch places with his normal one at random intervals. If he's in public he'll usually try to find a place to hide or detain himself until it passes. At this present time he's gotten used to it and has tried to weaponize it buy using it to destroy Eggman's forces, this acceptance of his newfound madness has allowed him to gain some form of control over it, as he can switch it on whenever he wants, but he can't switch it off until he returns to normal, and the shifting itself still happens randomly. When in this state his natural abilities are boosted, it's similar to the werehog from Sonic Unleashed, but alot more agile. When enraged his hands will form short sharp claws that can tear through metal like paper. Due to his crazed nature he's become alot more feral, for example he can double his top speed by running on all fours (he'd be able to keep up with characters like Blaze, and Knuckles). Though dangerous, there is a playful side to his madness, he can often be seen behaving like a normal dog, barking, growling, howling, digging, things like that, overall an oversized puppy with a killer's edge.
Here is where I go into some small details before the end of this post, this will go over short things that aren't too important but things I'd like to mention.
If Warden were to have a voice Actor it would be Phil LaMarr, known to voice characters like Green Lantern from justice league, and Dracula from Billy & Mandy.
Did you know, in Sonic underground the characters have a different voice actor for when they break into song? I got curious as to who would Warden sound like when he sings, and I settled on David Bowie.
Warden has a love for naps and just sleeping in general, if given the opportunity to do either he will take it.
If You've made it here, I'd like to thank you for reading this looong fan fiction explantion over a character I've gained and odd passion for, it's honestly surprises me I put this much thought into this. I hope you enjoyed and found this somewhat entertaining. With that being said I wish you a good rest of your Day, Night, or whenever you're reading this.
