Amongst the starry night alpine sky, sat below a carnival a lit with neon lights. Cheers form kids and adults alike could be heard all around, from the enjoyment of the park’s rides, minigames or it’s myriad of treats both sweet and savory.
Within all this commotion walked a lone dog, who was fortunate to have a day off today, and was headed to a particular château that stood in the center of the park. He had heard from onenof his friends that chao races were often hosted there, and decided to see one for himself.
The snow crunched beneath the footsteps of his red winter boots, the slight breeze in the air made him shiver a tad bit, do he put his red mitten gloved hands in the pockets of his coat and continued msking his way through the crowd.
“Uuurrghh… I hate the cold.” He complained.
“Why did I let them convince me to come here? Maybe I should just go ho-”
He was stopped mid sentence by the smell of a nearby kiosk selling grilled hot dogs. He lifted his head slightly and sniffed the air, that’s when his stomach decided to growl and he locked his lips hungrily, then quickly lowerd his head ashamed, hoping no one saw that.
He sighed and shook his head. “I’ve got to have alot more self control in that department.”
With a shrug, he quickly dashed over to the kiosk and ordered a hot dog with mustard on it. He leaned against the counter as he waited for his food.

Soon enough, the pair found their way out of the strange mirror world, back to freedom!
By then, Maruki had slowed to a light jog, wanting to preserve his breath this time but also wishing to avoid keeping Warden waiting on him for too long. Thankfully, when he emerged back in the wintry outside, the doctor found Warden excitedly waiting for him, tail even wagging.
Just like an actual dog, Maruki mused in mystified amusement. What’s more, he found himself finding Warden’s other self cute in this way, not a term he would he initially associated with this side of the other dog.
Regardless, they were free again thanks to Warden, which Maruki acknowledged by somewhat hesitantly giving him a pet on the head and an awkward yet genuine smile.
“Um…good boy?”
The mad mutt gleefully bounded towards Maruki when he exited the (not so fun) fun-house of mirrors. When petted, his panting stopped as he smiled and nuzzled the Inu's palm, he was slowly calming down.
"F-Friend... Murky... friend..."
As his mind calmed down, his eyes began to become a spiral, slowly shifting from a monochromatic color scheme to his former blue.
"Uurrgghh.... wha-...what happened?"
Warden, finally back to his senses, stood up and stirred awake, feeling like he had just taken a long nap, but he knew this feeling all too well as he snapped fully awake and immediately began to panic.
"W-Wait... You were there... so you saw... oh no! D-Did I hurt you!? Oh my god, I'm sorry! I-I'm so sorry!"
Warden began to tremble in fear and began to step back, not fully understanding if he had hurt his new friend or not. Not only that, he didn't want Maruki to see that side of himself in the first place. He began to doubt and blame himself. Was it a mistake to come here? Should he have just stayed home? Did he ruin another potential friendship!? These among a multitude of negative thoughts clouded his mind.

To his credit, Maruki was doing a decent job keeping up - or at least enough that he didn’t lose track of Warden as the feral man dashed through one mirror after another.
That said, the Inu still wasn’t the most athletic, so by the time he caught up with his fellow canine, he needed a moment to catch his breath, hands on his knees.
“I…I really need to exercise more,” he wheezed before looking up at Warden, who regarded him intently.
On the bright side, the other dog seemed to at least recognize him and had no intentions of leaving him behind. For that reason, Maruki managed an exhausted yet relieved smile.
“You’re doing great, friend. Don’t stop, OK?”
And when Warden continued on ahead, Maruki continued following without question.
Even if Maruki was having slight trouble in keeping pace, that didn't stop Warden from making a beeline for the exit. The cold wind and mirrors whizzed by in a blur as the hound picked up the pace, until he finally saw the exit where he lept through, thankfully there wasn't anyone about to enter, otherwise the would've been tackled heavily to the grown.
"HAHAHAHA!!! Warden free! Warden Free!"
The dog rolled around in the snow playfully, not too dissimilar to a dog who had been kept inside all day, finally getting to go to the park. He shook off the snow from his fur and sat down, panting and wagging his tail in anticipation, waiting for the Inu to escape aswell.

For that one moment when Warden slowly uttered his name, Maruki smiled, relieved to see and hear a glimmer of recognition - only for that relief to die immediately when the other dog leapt over him to slaughter a Shadow behind the Inu before running through one of the mirrors.
Just that woman, Maruki noted in heavy resignation. That observation brought to mind what she had told him before they parted ways, how though he was indeed weaker than before, he held more power than he himself suspected.
The Inu took a deep breath before, after a moment of reluctance, gingerly stepping through the same mirror as Warden. Deep inside, Adam Kadmon stirred.
He knew what to do, as did Maruki despite the doctor wishing there to be some other way.
But no, Warden needed his help. His friend needed help, and Maruki was only one who could provide it.
With a weary sigh, the Inu kept walking until Warden’s figure could be seen again in the distance.
The mad dog lept through several Mirrors, seemingly following a very specific path as they would occasionally stop to sniff the ground before taking off in another direction.
A few more twists and turns later, the once hard marble floor now was a familiar patterned carpet, and the mirrors were no longer warping. Warden even tapped one of the mirrors just to be sure, only for it to indeed be a solid surface.
The mutt sniffed the air to make sure the doctor was still following him, he was. Warden tuened to face Maruki who was still a few mirrors down.
"ARF!! ARF!! RRRUFF!!"
Through a few barks, he was trying to signal the Inu that he had found the exit. Continuing down the carpeted hallway only needing to make a few more turns.

“Warden?” Maruki warily asked as he drew closer, only to jerk back in fright when the other dog more or less…mutilated that hapless Shadow.
That…was definitely not a good sign.
Even without facing him, the doctor could tell from this angle that Warden had undergone some sort of change in the time they’d been apart. A very concerning one by the looks of things.
Regaining his resolve, Maruki approached him at a much slower pace, careful not to raise his voice too much as he addressed the other dog. All the while, Adam Kadmon echoed in his subconscious, on mental standby in case the situation escalated.
“Warden…are you alright?”
Almost like a primal animal Warden sniffed the chilled air catching the scent of something behind him, in which whirled around wildly, barring his fangs and snarling with primordial fury. He lowered down to a quadrupetal stance and growled at the Inu once more.
“RRRGHHH… RRAAAGHHH…”
Despite his rather fierce demeanor, Warden was clearly shaking, perhaps the sudden separation and fear caused the shift in mindset. Slowly he prowled closer, both in curiosity, but also as a warning.

Maruki gasped at his friend’s current state, but managed to keep himself from backing up lest he give the other dog reason to attack, a low bar to set considering Warden already seemed on edge as is.
After taking a deep slow breath to steady his nerves, Maruki got down on one knee and extended a hand, making sure to put on the same friendly smile he gave Warden when they first met.
“It’s OK. It’s just me. Maruki, remember? I’m here to get you out of here. Don’t worry, no one will hurt you. I won’t hurt you.”
When Maruki extended his hand towards Warden, he snarled and backed up a bit, still a bit weary of the Inu's intentions. After a moment and somewhat comprehending what Maruki had said, the mutt's expression softened slightly as his fur simmered down and became slighty more neat.
"M-Ma...ru...ki..?"
Suddenly his expression reverted back to his prior fierce one as he then dashed at Maruki at full speed, only to then leap over him and pounce on a shadow that had snuck up behind the pair of them.
The mad dog ripped and tore through the shadow with a feral ferociousness, that only a starving tiger could have. With one final bite from his fangs, he took a chunk from the shadow and swallowed it as the rest of it turned to dust.
"Weak... tastes awful..."
With a lick of his snout he let out a haunting breath, as he looked around, briefly glancing at Maruki. Warden returned to his four legged stance as he sniffed the surface around them. With another turn of his head he sniffed the air then dashed off at full speed, his acceleration increased due to his stance.
A mirror stood before him, but much like the woman from before and Maruki himself, he effortlessly phased through it and continued on his path.

More power than he thinks?
Maruki had to do a double take on that, so taken by the statement that he barely registered her refusal to aid him. He did, however, snap to when she reached through the glass and revealed part of her other…less glamorous side.
Oh yes, staying on her good side was most definitely the right call.
For that reason, Maruki, shaken by what he’d seen, managed to regain enough composure to respond, clearing his throat in an awkward manner. This woman was as strange as she was terrifying.
“Oh, em, my apologies…ma'am. It’s clearly I’ve taken up enough of your time, so I’d best be off! Thank for the…advice!”
As he turned away, the dog focused inward until he could feel Adam Kadmon reaching out, sending his power throughout this realm in a manner not too dissimilar to how he’d done with the Metaverse back then.
Right away, Maruki gasped at the familiar silhouette of someone in the hazy distance, despite the surrounding darkness blocking his physical sight.
“Warden!” the Inu called out as he raced in the other dog’s direction, intent on their reunion.
Nyarlethotep was irked by the use of "Ma'am", but she let it pass. She she was taken by surprise at how much of a hurry he was to leave, but understood that in part was due to a bit of fear... good.
Regardless, she simply smiled a gently waved goodbye to the Inu as they ran off. Once he was out of sight, her expression dropped to a more serious one.
"You house a power that shouldn't be touched, we will meet again.... Azathoth."
And with that, she walked deeper into the mirrored maze, fading out amongts the reflections.

As the Inu drew closer to his friend by phasing through the mirrors eventually his form became more clear. Warden's back was turned to his friend and he was hunched over something. The heat of his breath steamed through the cold air as a tar like hand of a bring frantically tried to scurry away, before it was promptly stomped on by the mutt as he then raised his now clawed hand and tore its arm off.
The creature... the shadow writhed in pain as Warden growled and crushed its arm into dusts.
"HRRGHH..."
The mutt growled at the creature, before violently ripping it to shreads with tooth and claw, bashing it until it was nothing but ash his fur was untamed and hands were open with arched fingers and claws always at the ready to slash through something.

Against his will, the doctor felt his face and ears droop a little.
While on the one hand Maruki supposed this woman could be lying, her expressions and response were far too sincere to pass as a mere trick. In other words, Maruki was back to square one with no fathomable idea how to abort from this situation, let alone with Warden.
It also didn’t help that, as he feared, this woman knew exactly who he was and what he’d done. Even if the separation wasn’t her doing, Maruki was still at her mercy, with no idea of what she might intend for him.
Best to play along.
The doctor adjusted his jacket with a self-conscious air. “Um…thank you. Although I’m sure you’re also aware that my powers are no longer at the peak they once were. In other words, I’m not in much of a position to be finding my friend, let alone our way back, myself. I was wondering if you might be willing to help me.”
Nyarlethotep halted her pacing, and gracefully crossed her arms over her chest. She let out a sigh through her nose, pleased that Maruki's pleasant albeit most false professional facade had mostly faded.
"Oh, believe me, I'm well aware of your diminished feeble power. Right now you couldn't even defeat me, but... as things are now, you may have more power than you think."
She pondered Maruki's request in searching for, in which she gave him a blunt answer.
"Hmm, no. I don't think I will."
There was a pause, and she could tell Maruki most likely wouldn't understand what she was getting at. She let out an exasperated sigh along with a look of disappointment.
"Are you a persona user or not? Look."
Nyarlethotep despite being on the other side of the glass, effortlessly phased her hand through the mirror, her hand though seemed to change shape, what was once the ivory hand of a woman changed into an inky black hand with sharp nails, and the head of a black rose growing from the top of her hand.
"Use what you know to find your friend. Surely a pup like you could sniff him out, especially with what power you possess."
She retracted her hand and caressed it, alot like it had been hurt.
"Shame on you, forcing a woman to reveal her ugly side."
She gave Maruki a playful pout.

Oh. Oh this is not a direction Maruki had seen his day going - and he did not enjoy it one bit.
Right off the bat, he could tell whoever this woman was (if he could even all her that), her power greatly eclipsed that of him and his Persona, perhaps even that of Maruki during his stint as the Gentle Madman.
What’s more, Warden was nowhere to be seen, although Adam Kadmon silently insisted that the other dog was still around somewhere.
Until a plan to rescue him could be concocted, though, Maruki would have to play it safe, get a feel for the situation. Whatever this situation was.
Calling on his former demeanor of a Palace Ruler, Maruki schooled a calm yet authoritative face as he faced down the mysterious woman.
“I suppose introductions are in order. My name is Takuto Maruki - although I have a distinct feeling you already knew that - and you are?”
The woman immediately noticed the shift in demeanor and the facade that Maruki was putting on to seem calm and collcted. There was a pause before she smirked and decided to not call him out on it.
“Mhmhmhm, my my, what a gentleman. Atleast you know how to greet a lady. Well I might aswell return said introductions even if your friend there is well aware of who I am.”
The woman bent down briefly just to meet eye level with Maruki.
“You may call me, Nyarlethotep, my little pup. And it seems to me you’ve lost your pack. How sad.”
Pack. Something about that word made Maruki’s heart shift in a way the Inu didn’t feel ready to analyze, so he compartmentalized it for later in favor of focusing on talking his way out of this situation.
“Indeed I have,” the dog confirmed with a nod. “It’s quite obvious this whole thing is your doing, even if I can’t fathom your reasons at the moment. If this is due to my friend and me trespassing or offending you in any other way, then I extend a sincere apology on both our behalves.”
The doctor even bowed his head in respect, just to make sure his intentions were as clear as possible.
“He and I only intended to take our time enjoying the attraction,” he continued as he undid the bow. “If you truly are responsible for his disappearance, then I’d like to know.”
The dog’s face softened just a smidge in concern. “Is he alright at least?”
Nyarlethotep watched as the Inu borderline groveled at her feet. She watched as Maruki presented himself in the most professional disaplatly he could manage. When accused of causing this altercation, Nyarlethotep smirked, then began to laugh maniacally.
"Mhmhmhm... MmhahahahHAHA!! Humorous, truly hilarious that you believe I am the cause of this!"

The woman giggled once more before slowly walking around Maruki, the reflections of her circling the Inu menacingly. Her expression changed to one of a calm smirk.
"You're right Takuto Maruki, I know who you are, and I know what you've done, and I must say... I'm impressed. Truly I am."

Amongst the starry night alpine sky, sat below a carnival a lit with neon lights. Cheers form kids and adults alike could be heard all around, from the enjoyment of the park’s rides, minigames or it’s myriad of treats both sweet and savory.
Within all this commotion walked a lone dog, who was fortunate to have a day off today, and was headed to a particular château that stood in the center of the park. He had heard from onenof his friends that chao races were often hosted there, and decided to see one for himself.
The snow crunched beneath the footsteps of his red winter boots, the slight breeze in the air made him shiver a tad bit, do he put his red mitten gloved hands in the pockets of his coat and continued msking his way through the crowd.
“Uuurrghh… I hate the cold.” He complained.
“Why did I let them convince me to come here? Maybe I should just go ho-”
He was stopped mid sentence by the smell of a nearby kiosk selling grilled hot dogs. He lifted his head slightly and sniffed the air, that’s when his stomach decided to growl and he locked his lips hungrily, then quickly lowerd his head ashamed, hoping no one saw that.
He sighed and shook his head. “I’ve got to have alot more self control in that department.”
With a shrug, he quickly dashed over to the kiosk and ordered a hot dog with mustard on it. He leaned against the counter as he waited for his food.

Oh. Oh this is not a direction Maruki had seen his day going - and he did not enjoy it one bit.
Right off the bat, he could tell whoever this woman was (if he could even all her that), her power greatly eclipsed that of him and his Persona, perhaps even that of Maruki during his stint as the Gentle Madman.
What’s more, Warden was nowhere to be seen, although Adam Kadmon silently insisted that the other dog was still around somewhere.
Until a plan to rescue him could be concocted, though, Maruki would have to play it safe, get a feel for the situation. Whatever this situation was.
Calling on his former demeanor of a Palace Ruler, Maruki schooled a calm yet authoritative face as he faced down the mysterious woman.
“I suppose introductions are in order. My name is Takuto Maruki - although I have a distinct feeling you already knew that - and you are?”
The woman immediately noticed the shift in demeanor and the facade that Maruki was putting on to seem calm and collcted. There was a pause before she smirked and decided to not call him out on it.
"Mhmhmhm, my my, what a gentleman. Atleast you know how to greet a lady. Well I might aswell return said introductions even if your friend there is well aware of who I am."
The woman bent down briefly just to meet eye level with Maruki.
"You may call me, Nyarlethotep, my little pup. And it seems to me you've lost your pack. How sad."

Like Warden, Maruki also cocked his ears in interest at the sound of laughter, and turned his head just in time to notice a few youths strolling out of some kind of funhouse.
The Inu’s dark eyes narrowed in on the sign: Hall of Mirrors. That sounded like it could be an interesting time. Would Warden want to go though?
Turns out yes because the other dog, right on cue, chose right then to bring it up. Maruki barely managed to contain a giggle at the way Warden unintentionally mispronounced his last name, hand covering his mouth.
“Well, as long as we have the time to spare, I wouldn’t mind!” The Inu gave Warden a warm smile. “Although we better take care to stick close in there. Don’t wanna spend the whole night looking for one another and missing the race, right?”
A nervous chuckle passed Warden’s stache as he thought about the potential idea of getting lost, but he was sure there was some sort of safety net or pattern in the floor that could potentially give them a leg up if either of them had gotten lost.
“Alright, Noted.”
The mutt nodded as he entered the attraction alongside his new Inu friend. After an entrance room decorated with old, regal looking mirrors leaning against the walls, there was a single doorway. It contrasted with the dimly lit dark colors of the entrance room, leading into a well lit set of hallways, all the walls reflecting themselves creating a distorted illusion.
This legitimately made Warden sweat a bit as he was unsure how to go about this, but he decided to trust his instincts and stay close to Maruki.
‘Well… no time like the present.“
Warden began to take a few steps forward, prepping himself for the world of confusion he was about to step into.
As they stepped inside the attraction, Maruki could not deny a partial sense of deja vu as the regal interior reminded him somewhat of his former Palace.
That feeling only intensified once he and Warden entered the next doorway and came face to face with the namesake of the attraction, the distorted mirrors driving the uncanniness further home as the two dogs’ found themselves surrounded by their own twisted reflections.
Adam Kadmon stirred.
Out of instinct, Maruki gently grabbed and squeezed Warden’s shoulder, in part to quell the anxiety he could discern in his friend’s frame and in part for his own peace of mind.
“No time like the present indeed.”
With that, Maruki took Warden by the hand and walked forward, guiding him.
The sudden squeeze on his shoulder made him jump a bit, but he suddenly felt a wave of calm wash over his body and mind. It was… strange almost surreal. When taken by the hand Warden’s fur frizzed a bit at the gesture. Without thinking he held on to Maruki’s hand a bit tighter as his tail gently wagged from side to side.
“Ahem… uh, yes! Precisely, l-let’s go.”
As the two canines walked through the mystic maze of mirrors, something began to feel… off. Like the mirrors were reflecting in ways that didn’t seem possible as they were all seemingly made from the same type of glass and structure. Some mirror refelcted a flipped image of themselves, others reflections seemingly distorted and moved like a slow current.
Either way, this began to set Warden off a bit, he even swore his other side could sense something as well.
“Hey, Maruki, I dunno about you but… something feels a bit off–”
Just as Warden finished his thought, a giggle echoed throughout the maze as the lights flickered then shut off for a moment. After a few seconds of darkness, the lights flickered back on… and Warden was nowhere to be seen.
Maruki, too, for all his veneer of optimism, could not help but sense something amiss in this place. In fact, he felt the strange sensation even more than Warden did, Adam Kadmon trembling in his consciousness in a rare moment of apprehension.
That same feeling of uncanniness returned, only now stronger than before. Especially now when Maruki glimpsed the mirrors to find not his and Warden’s reflections but instead the scenes of Maruki’s own life: Rumi, Sumire, the Phantom Thieves…
Right away, he tensed, his grip on Warden’s hand tightening.
Something was here. Or perhaps someone…?
Then a giggle echoed throughout the room and the whole room blacked out.
Except when the lights returned, Maruki turned in fear, only to find Warden nowhere in sight!
“Warden? Warden?!”
There was nothing but the echo of the Inu's voice against the the distorted reflections. The mirrors seemingly moved and shifted positions creating and erasing pathways before they inevitably slowed down and came to a full stop.
"Mmm hm hm hm.~"
There was another echo of laughter that rang through the maze, a powerful force could be felt bringing pressure to the atmosphere. Then there was the sounds of heels clacking against the floor, but from which direction? As the being came into view, the reflection of a tall human woman in a white dress surrounded Maruki and Adam Kadmon.
"A hall of Mirrors? How fun, and how exploitable. You and your friend seemed pretty eager to waltz on through here. So, I must ask..."

Maruki sincerely hoped he wasn’t fulfilling any stereotypes with his lack of familiarity with this region and its customs. The last thing he needed was making a laughingstock out of himself, let alone embarrassing his fellow canine.
In fact, despite the brief time they’d gotten to know each other, the Inu felt confident enough to say he had a good feeling about Warden’s character. Who knows, perhaps by the end of today the two could strike up a genuine friendship.
Warden’s agreement to his offer certainly seemed like a good start. Maruki chuckled and nodded in response.
The counselor blinked, however, at the manner in which Warden finished off his hotdog, especially the faint snarl at the end. Again that, ripple of tension echoed in his mind. Every act Warden seemed like it could be that one pebble cast into a pond, setting off what lurked beneath the surface.
The Inu shook his head, regardless, and tried mask his feelings with a smile as he hastened after Warden. He needed to ward off suspicion until he could get to the bottom of these odd premonitions.
The stached mutt lightly jogged across the puffy white sheet of ice below his boots. His tail swished from side to side excitedly as he personally feels like he made a new friend today, atleast he hoped he did... and that he wouldn't blow it by shifting at the wrong time and place.
Warden shook his head of those negative thoughts, knowing that if he worried about losing control the more likely he would cause it to happen.
"No... this is supposed to be fun. You're gonna have a fun day with a new friend." He mumbled to himself before taking a breath, and holding his head up high.
As he and Maruki crossed into the attraction plaza, his ears picked up an group of younger mobians laughing as they stepped out of a fun-house with attractions that switched out daily. Warden halted his pace and looked up at the sign displaying the current attraction.
"Hall of Mirrors? 'Can you find your way amongts the reflections of yourself'? Hmm... sounds interesting." Thinking of this to be a good opportunity to bond with his new friend further, he decided atleast propose the offer.
"Hey Murky-- I mean, Maruki! From what I read on the pamphlet for this place, the Chao race shouldn't start for another hour and thirty minutes. Up for a quick detour?"
"Do you want to know what my favorite things are? Too bad, you're going to listen anyway."
"My favorite things are gifts, flowers, sunsets, dresses, and lastly..."
"A kiss."
