His jaw clenches, his brow furrows. His grip on his own arms tightens.
“Few things.” His voice is a low rumble. It sits heavy in his chest, like the invisible weight that clings to his shoulders. Dragging him down. Damning him.
“I wish-...” A breath let out through his nose. He closes his eyes for a moment. “I wish things had gone different. Back when I was young - when Kane and I were both young. I wish things could’ve gone better. Maybe then…” More long silence. This is something he doesn’t like to talk about, and it’s reflected in the way the temperature drops. He shakes his head and sits back, pushing his hand through his hair.
“I never should’ve done it. The fire. It cost us everything, and I-" He scowls, stands abruptly with a snarl. He paces like a beast caged, even if the bars are only visible to him, if the shackles are welded to his wrists by his own hands. Anxieties stir in his gut until they grow claws, heating in a way holy opposite to the chill that now fills the room. His eyes find his chair at the same time as his hand does. He hurls the chair across the room. It meets the wall with a cacophonous SLAM. There's a deep gouge in the paint where it hit, but he doesn't care. Hardly even notices. He leaves, letting the door slam behind him.
