i would be so curious to know your season 2 costuming beef, if you should be so interested as to go into it -psychosassicvampire
Fuckin A, I've given a Ted talk on this before, so I'll condense that.
Barts dress in the beginning is silly to the point of ridiculousness, its was basically a gag and she deserves better. She wasnt scary or intimidating which would have been an interesting contrast to her conversation with Suzie, like when she was getting to know Ken. We as the audience knew she wasnt a threat, but her trying to be kind and merciful whil still looking fresh out a slasher flick would have been mad sexy. Her whole thing is practically when it comes to clothes, and her little prom dress seriously took the edge off such an interesting and badass character (they did the same to the rowdies in wendimore but I'm forgiving wendimore related crimes)
Also the blackwing uniforms didnt make sense since they were color coded. When we just saw Dirk's it was perfect bc it was shapeless and impersonal with a symbol where a nametag would be which was dehumanizing and interesting. Then they color coded individual projects. Looking at them individually it's an interesting contrast to their chosen clothes (specifically the rowdies and Dirk) but they missed a really cool opportunity in doing that!!! It would have added to the prisonlike atmosphere of blackwing, added to the dehumaniziation, and helplessness portrayed if they were all in the same bland scrubs!! The monotony would have been delicious!!!
A costume should be a reflection of both atmosphere and character (and their mood) and for blackwing they really missed that mark by trying to push whimsy and color into a government prison lol
Todd's drug rug was 10/10 though, fuck ugly and I loved it
