A Specialist In Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy
Cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy involves patients who have heart, lung or vascular conditions or have complications to these systems as a result of other comorbidities. As such a cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapist must have an in depth knowledge of the cardiovascular and pulmonary implications of diseases affecting these systems in the body. This allows them to perform adequate assessment of a patient’s physical performance relating to their condition and subsequently interpret and design effective intervention programs. The emphasis of treatment for cardiovascular and pulmonary patients is exercise therapy and physical therapists will use evidence based practice when interpreting and designing their specific exercise intervention. They also play a large role in promoting wellness to a population at risk of developing various comorbidities as a result of lifestyle choices. Therapists also work with a multidisciplinary team to assist in diagnosis of conditions relating to the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems and have an understanding of prognosis of various conditions and diseases.
