Should a parent leave his or her family to work abroad for money?

       In our life, our number one way to gain money is to work. For us to have money, we should sacrifice, work hard and focus on the work. Philippines is still a developing country and Filipino people must really work to survive. But what if a parent must leave his/her family for money? What if a parent chooses to be an OFW or Overseas Filipino Workers. Will there be a problem?

        According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, last 14 April 2016 our OFWs are over 2.4 Million. Literally, most of them are working for their families. Some of them are having a homesick and stressed out because of the truth that their families are far from them, but they are trying to get used to it for their family. As a daughter, I can also see the trials of my parents to give us a good life. As I can see, a lot of parents out there or very frustrated to have money and to be rich. Since our country is not that rich, a lot of people can see their good future in different rich countries that’s why they choose to be an OFW. We have had heard a lot of news about the stress or problems of our OFWs but we never heard the problems of their families who were left behind. It is really not good to leave their family behind because it can affect the family relationship and their child’s mindset.

         Filipino families really do bond together a lot. We’re family-oriented and meal- oriented. Being a family-oriented, it can see the family traditions and families’ closeness on this one. It can help the family Filipinos strong and firm. Our Filipino families do breakfast together, lunch together and dinner together. We always love the idea of family meals. It is not only good for the child’s growth but also for their strong relationship. On the research of Dew, J. Britts and Houston, S. (2012) they said that if the financial issue comes to the point of the family, the members will be stressed and moody (RBFIDFR, 2012). Family problem is really a problem for the family and obviously it shows the decision of a parent to work abroad. Other countries have better opportunities and better salary that’s why parents chose to leave. Unfortunately, without a parent, it leads to unhealthy and unhappy family. A parent has a big role in the family and if it gone, slowly and surely the family relationship they’ve build will be gone too. One day, the family will not give importance to the family relations, traditions and closeness. To the child, it will lead to anti-social kid, low self-esteem and low self-confidence. The insecurities will win in the child’s mind that’s why even one parent left, it can change the child.

           In our country, our family is our strengths. We actually relay on each other. If a parent leaves his\her family, it will actually change a lot of things—not only their relationship but also on the child. For me, a parent should not leave his\her family for money and treasure because the family is everything. It is our home and the number one treasure.

Should Parents monitor their child’s personal internet accounts and use?

                A person has been provided with his or her own privacy and it’s their discretion on how to exploit it as part of our society. Parents have been the foundation of every child since he/she was born. Yet, as the child gets older and older the gap between the parent and child gets wider and wider, which is the sad truth. A teenagers’ life presently is way too distinguishable from their parents’ life before. But imagine a parent having a null idea about his/her child in their teenage life and how they deal with it can make a really big count. And should teen be allowed a ream of privacy away from the prying eyes of parents?

                Parenting is a responsibility and a big thing to deal with, as time passes by, lots of changes may transpire inside of the family. Parents tried to enter the zones of their teenager child and knowing that we are now living in the 21st century makes it more critical. We are aware that by the use of internet teenagers can never be disjointed with this. Social media accounts are very worthwhile in teenagers and it’s their way of exploring their freedom. Most parents tried to ask for their accounts at certain times or at least ask their child few personal questions. Well, it is quite abstract when parents get to know the things that their friends can only comprehend. The use of internet became very standard even at their very young age. -Here’s a real shocker: teens are better than their parents at using the Internet, and are likely to hide some of their online behaviors from them. That news comes from a 2,017- person survey funded by the online security software maker McAfee, which is pushing a product that helps parents monitor their kids online.

              Seventy percent of teens “hide their online behavior” from parents, according to the report, that’s up from 45% in 2010. These hidden behaviors include some things you might expect such as accessing violent (43%) or pornographic (32%) content online. According to the highlights of the CNN news here’s the list of teens who said they engaged in these behaviors, according to the survey results: clear browser history; close/minimize browser when parent walked in; Hide or delete IMs or videos; Use a computer your parents don’t check; Use privacy settings, most of these are up to 50% according to the survey. More than three-quarters of children ages 12 to 17 had cellphones as of 2012; almost half of those devices were smartphones with internet. The age at which children get their first mobile device is getting younger and younger too.

               Is it entering ones isolation when personal accounts have been monitored by the parents? Or it’s just a way of being isolated in gap barriers. Monitoring the child’s accounts teaches them bad computer security habits on the other hand teenagers still has the dump to find their privacy. Humans need privacy, even children, teenagers at social media are mostly just being kids, and they should have the opportunity to do that. No one should feel that everything they are doing is being monitored, to learn independence and develop as human beings children need to feel trusted and need to have space to be them. On the other hand, respecting children and giving them some degree of privacy will allow the parents to forge a much stronger relationship with mutual trust yet, in our generation and by the use of internet it won’t be easy for that. Most teenagers want their own definition of self and self-privacy as an exploring person in the society, and one thing that keeps them from moving back is that there is a possibility that their parents won’t understand the way teenagers feel.

Why shouldn’t we disregard Family Planning?

           According to Worldometer, as of 2016, Philippines’ population reaches 103 Million. We are not new to this big number telling us that our country is carrying millions of people. Based on the list of countries by population, the Philippines ranked number 12. We know for a fact that not all families are living a healthy and easy life. Some of the families are suffering and are having a lot of difficulties in life because of the big number of the members of each family. That is why, we shouldn’t disregard family planning for it can lessen poverty, decreases health problems and can help economic growth.

           Couples that are just starting off building their own family should consider family planning so they will not add up to the number of families that are experiencing poverty. According to Malcolm Potts from the Bixby Center for population, health and sustainability, the birth rates need to lower down to 2.2 percent so we will not experience over 150 million populations just in 10 years. Population is one of the many problems of every country. With family planning, couples can plan ahead how many kids they will be able to support financially such as their education. Also, with family planning, it allows women to plan spacing of pregnancies and can delay pregnancies in young women at increased risk of health problems, according to World Health Organization. A study from Europe states that countries in East Asia in particular, have benefited and an estimated 30-50% of the religion’s economic growth from 1965 to 1990 can be attributed to changes in population dynamics, which are strongly influenced by reproductive health services and contraceptives.

           Through family planning, couples could save up so they could be ready to the family they are building. In doing so, they can prevent staying in a dirty places because of the reason that they cannot afford buying a house in a safe and health area. They can avoid living in places where their children would easily get sick or catch diseases. On top of that, we do not want to reach the point when we could not break ourselves free of the state or poverty. We all want to live a comfortable life so let us do something to make it happen.

           Family Planning is a big step towards reduction of the number of poverty in our country and to decrease health problems. It could also help in the countries’ economic growth because families would be able to support their financial needs and when the children graduates someday, they would have a stable job to help make some development in the economic for they won’t find it that hard to support their needs. The possible solution is by using contraceptives and also by supporting some health organization. Without family planning, our country could be a balloon ready to pop out so we should not disregard this.

                                    “In The Eyes of the Filipinos”

In the eyes of Filipinos, we have different perceptions when it comes to beauty. Beauty is a universal thought. We have different perceptions in the beauty. We can define the word beauty in different ways. But in this paper we will try to let everyone understand what is the real beautiful for Filipinos using the TV commercials. The fast food restaurant, which is McDonalds’, has a good marketing team. They have great ideas when it comes to marketing strategies. Their TV commercials are very popular in the Philippines. It is popular because they can define it as beautiful. A lot of Filipinos appreciate the commercials of McDonalds’ because they define it as beautiful. Is it really a beautiful commercial? Do these commercials really define the Filipinos’ beauty? What is beautiful? What is beautiful for Filipinos? How come they can see beauty in those McDonalds’ commercials? This paper will discuss about the beautiful in the eyes of the Filipinos that can be seen in the McDonalds’ TV commercials mentally, physically and morally.

There is this commercial of McDonalds’ that shows about the grandfather and his granddaughter. It is about the granddaughter, who is Karen, thinks that his grandfather loves her sister more. But when her grandfather said her name and called ‘My Favorite Grandchild, Karen’ smiles and that is the end. For the Filipinos they think it is really sweet and beautiful because it showed about the love of the Grandparent and Grandchild. Yes, the commercial made us realize we must love our grandparents and that is beautiful. But is it mentally right for all of us to think having our grandparents’ favor us? Do we really need to be the first in our family’s heart? Is it really beautiful to have favoritism? I guess that is the beauty in the eyes of the Filipinos, to think and see that they are the best and nothing else.

The next commercial is about Jessy Mendiola. She walks in the place wearing a sexy red dress and shakes the French fries. Yes, Jessy Mendiola really shows the sexiness and boldness beauty of a woman in that commercial. That is the reason why Filipinos think that is beautiful because they can see the hotness of the body of Jessy. Filipinos see that it is a beautiful commercial because of the body of Jessy that was being shown. That’s why Filipinos are really defining the word beautiful by looking at the physical look.

The other commercial of McDonalds’ about the two kids. The two kids are having lovers’ quarrel in that commercial. The little girl asked if she is already the girlfriend of the little boy. The boy didn’t answer that’s why the girl got mad. The little boy bought a French fries for the little girl and in the end they are walking, holding each other’s hands. Filipinos said that it is really cute and funny that’s why it is already a beautiful commercial for them. But the question is, is it really morally right to show something about two kids being in a relationship? Filipinos identify the word beautiful, morally good or right.

A lot of Filipinos loved the McDonalds’ commercial. It is funny, sweet and told us a lot of facts about Filipinos. It shows a lot of reality. For Filipinos, beautiful is just for the physical look of the things but they don’t even study the thing further that’s why they are calling beautiful things that are actually not pretty. In those misunderstood and misinterpreted McDonalds’ TV commercials they identify the word beautiful mentally, physically and morally right or good.

What is beauty?

         What is the real meaning of beauty? Beauty physically could be innate. It could be just how attractive a person is naturally like how they were born but I think that beauty is when you weren't born with perfect eyebrows, the best hair or the sharpest jawline but you still see yourself as a creature with beauty. When you improve your physical features to their full potential without altering it completely through cosmetics. In short, beauty is when you're given less but you make it the best and wear it with confidence. Some people are depending on the outside looks and some are looking for the curves of the body and even basing it on age, but that is not what beauty really means.

         Beauty is based on your inner soul and on how you use your virtues in a way your attitude is not much and not less. It can be seen naturally. Beauty is in our surroundings that God made in the first place but because of the irresponsibility of the people around the world its somewhat being wasted. In terms of beauty within a person, I still insist that we should have natural beauty. It’s not that we don't use make up but we shouldn't have a surgery to look more beautiful or attractive. Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.

         I would like to introduce my mother because for me she is the best example on what beauty really means. Mothers are the ones who gave birth in every child in this world and there are the ones who is sacrificing their blood and sweat just to give us what’s best for our future and the other things that we want. A mom is the understandable human being in this world and they would do anything just to keep us safe. The beauty of what I saw in my mom is she really loves us with all her heart despite on what happened to our family. She is really our life saver because she is doing everything that she could. Isn’t that what beauty really loves?

(Concept Paper)

Some may perceive a thing as a perfect one by the way it looks, but some may omit that the way it looks doesn't really define a perfect thing. At certain times the word perfect can be a definition of a family, which is one of the most important social groups we belong as we grow up and became part of the society. Throughout history, the word family has carried many different meanings. The terminology defines it as, “A family is a group of people who, in most cases, live together. They share their money and food and are supposed to take care of one other. But the idea of a perfect family defines its own reality and its illusion.

   Individuals may have their ideal family to live with. Do you even feel the pressure of comparing your own family with others without realizing that what you see doesn't really measure the idea of a perfect family? Sometimes people can compose "archetype" families that have seen somewhere or perhaps they have dreams on what an ideal family should a person have. For an instance a child is lucky to be raised in a happy and secured family with two loving parents. A perfect one may define as; Healthy family with parents who do not quarrel and living in a peaceful life and siblings who were always cooperative with parents; Life living with harmonious environment without conflict. Some child may be in a nuclear family with a father and a mother. It really sounds a perfect family for each of the member as the person whom they can trust and they can count on.

   As a bed time story goes," Once upon a time there lived a family. The family was a picture of peace and harmony. They had what they needed; their children were always obedient and never argued with each other. The parents never disagreed on anything, nor was there cause for conflict. Their home was the center of joy and orderliness at all times. Everyone who saw them just knew that they were perfect family and will live longer as a happy family", this story only shows that there is no such thing as "perfect family" every family will experience challenges, trials, characters deficiencies and more. It only shows the reality of an imperfect family, and some may consist of imperfect people. Yet the imperfection of a perfect family affects the child or the children more than the stage and conflict of the parents. Today different variations of family structures are endless, some child may have lived neither with their single moms nor with single dad or they lived with their foster families.

   It fascinates our ideas when it comes to a perfect family, even if at some level we know that there's no such thing. It always has distinct meaning of a perfect family with each family member. Even the most sufficient people can be an example of imperfect family. Living peaceably in a family doesn’t always easy, yet a family can be perfect after its imperfection.

A wonderful story that touches our heart. A reaction paper to the novella, “The Metamorphosis”

          The Metamorphosis was written by Franz Kafka, it was originally published in 1915 at New York. Franz Kafka also wrote novels “In the Penal Colony” (1919), “A Country Doctor” (1920), The Trial (1937) and many more. This novel was telling a story about Gregor Samsa who woke up with a strange new look. This is how Franz Kafka shared an extra ordinary story.

          The story was actually about the man named Gregor Samsa works as a Traveling Salesman. He works really hard for his family because the income of his family depends on him. One day, he woke up with the new appearance. He became a vermin. This changes his life because it changes his daily lifestyle just because he became a vermin. He became happy because he can play around and stop working but the bad part is his family did not accept him. Somehow, he forgot the stress and pain he is going through when he was a human being. But when he turned into an insect, nobody tries to talk to him again and he felt unloved. Because his family did not accept him, they don’t want Gregor to stay in their house because for his family he is just another heavy bag to carry. He decided to leave the house for good. For me, it is not a good decision. Gregor worked hard for them but when he became an insect, his family thinks he is useless anymore.

         The novella was presented in the third person point of view. Though it was presented that way, it was focused on Gregor’s feelings, actions and the way he sees his environment and the events that’s happening inside their home. It was presented very well and we, as a reader, can feel Gregor’s feelings and can understand his thought through how it was narrated. Though there are some phrases and words that isn’t that easy, for us, to understand right away but after analyzing it very well, we somehow understand it.

          The characters of the novel truly resembles the role of each one in the story, it shows colors through the whole story. Each characters resembles what kind of persons are there in the story, it gives us the true interpretation of them. The emotions of the roles were convincing and solemn.

          If we will be asked if this novel is acceptable for everyone, we will totally say yes. This novel is very interesting and fun to read. It is like a wake up alarm for us. We’ve learned some lessons that we will keep in my mind. This novel is very interesting because first of, you will ask why a vermin? Why an insect? And why did it happen to him? It is really good because it gave you an idea of asking and interpreting the novel very often. You will think and think it over for you to be able to understand the real idea of the novel. For me it is very fun to read. It is very interesting and not boring to read. It holds my interest to the novel because it is not direct to the point, it will absolutely let you think. It can be a good exercise to analyze a novel.  Also, It is relevant by how the society see us. We cannot expect everyone to accept us right away, whoever and whatever we may be. It is really hard to please everyone and you can’t expect that you can please everybody. People do not think alike. This story is really an interesting story because from the very start, it got us hooked up and got our attention. The piece bothered us a bit because of, again, how painful and unfair Gregor’s life has suddenly become. It was really an unexpected event because even we cannot believe that he was just sleeping and suddenly, when he woke up, not just his physical appearance changed but also his life. If we could talk to the author, I will give him a round of applause and also tell him how good and well-written the novella is. Because of how nice it is, when we finished reading “Metamorphosis”, we realized that life will always give you something that you will not expect. If I’m gonna relate the story to the real life, the transformation of Gregor in the novella is the sudden turn of events in real life. It is like we woke up to a problematic situation that we got ourselves stucked and we can’t seem to get out and we don’t know how. For us, it is very genius novel. Franz Kafka is very genius and a legend.
