Great Sapphirewing - Pterophanes cyanopterus
Pterophanes cyanopterus (Trochilidae) is one of the largest species of hummingbirds. An adult can measure about 16 cm, not counting the peak, which adds 3 cm more.
The Great Sapphirewing is a South American species that occurs naturally in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. They inhabit subtropical or tropical moist montanes. Its common name is due to the sapphire-colored wings.
