A very important reminder that public libraries are awesome! Especially when you’re working away from home (that’s me, Alex) and on your way to the loos you randomly stumble upon a whole section on GHOST HUNTING AND SEARCHING OUT THE PARANORMAL!!!
A very ~Wyrd~ coincidence… Prepare for some extra special spooks from now onwards because I am going to absorb as much of this knowledge as I can over the next 3 days!
Another win for public libraries!
Children who get free lunches during the school year often go hungry in the summer. Libraries are helping to fill the gap.
As I was reading this article, I remembered an Achieve 3000 article about this town about how the citizens sued the city and got refunds from the traffic camera tickets. Now the public library there is running a hot lunch program. I like this little town.
Reason # 43247 why I love my job...
Me: *putting chairs back*
Young child: *looks at me very seriously* *points at my headscarf* “You’re a pirate!”
Me: *blinks* “Yes, I am...but I’m a nice pirate.”
Young child: *looks at me contemplatively* “Okay.”
I love my job. As I settle in though, I can’t help but think of the interview questions I probably SHOULD have been asked in addition to the ones I WAS asked. Interview questions such as:
“How are your animal sounds?”
“Can you mimic automotive and/or construction vehicle noises?”
“Do you have mad artistic skills with glue and trash?”
“What are your thoughts on the bodily fluids of young children?”
“Are you okay with holding bugs?”
“Are you okay with eating bugs?”
“Can you use power tools safely?”
“How many languages can you say ‘hello’ in?”
“Dressing up in costumes at work, cool or not?”
“Is the majority of your wardrobe washable?”
“Addiction preference: chocolate, coffee or yes?”
“Are you okay with silly dances?”
“How many nursery rhymes or children’s songs can you sing from memory at the drop of a hat?”
“Do you play an instrument?”
“How are your cooking skills?”
“Are you good at reading maps?”
“How fast can you walk without running?”
“Are you afraid of rodents?”

“How are your creative writing skills?”
“How big of a geek are you?”

First week at new job. Have already found somebody to fangirl w/ over lunch. Dies ist gut! I also got to discuss tsunamis and Greek mythology, and eat chocolate cake w/ sour cream frosting, veggies w/ home-made hummus and home-made lasagna for lunch, courtesy of my coworkers. Yum!
Geek the library...
I love working in a public library! I got into a delightful discussion today with another fanfic reader over our favorite authors and fandoms. Then in the later part of the afternoon, R2D2 and a few other Star Wars characters showed up at my work for a library program. I (naturally) redid my hair into cinnamon buns and had great fun posing and geeking out with kindred spirits over robotics, sound effects and other SciFi shows.
Yay, Friday!
Let's see.... I spent the day dressed as a pirate at my job, got a double-take from a guy dressed as a super-hero, found a giant puffball in a field on my way home, received several welcome fic update notices in my inbox, am fortified w/ a cup of tea, and some chocolate mint cookies, and am trying to choose between sleeping, reading, drawing, organizing music files, and/or cuddling kibbens. Life is good.
