“Demand Adequate Postal Facilities,” Cobalt Daily Nugget. June 5, 1911. Page 01. ---- Porcupine Business Men in Public Meeting Protest Against Neglect ---- Porcupine, May 30. - The property owners of Golden City, held to-night an indignation meeting at the Murphy Hotel and made vigorous protest against the delay on the part of the Government in extending an adequate postal service to this city. More tan fifty real estate holders and business men of that portion of Porcupine, locally known as Golden City, gathered and gave full vent to their feelings of anger over what they consider gross neglect of their needs by the Post Office Department. They passed the following resolution:
‘Resolved, That we, the citizens of Porcupine (Golden City) feel that we are not receiving the service from the Post Office Department to which we are entitled, that our petitions for the establishment of a post office accessible to our people are not being accorded recognition, that it is the sense of this meeting that the Government is entitled to severe censure for thus neglecting our needs and that we vote that such censure shall be passed upon them by this body. That the secretary be instructed to communicate this resolution to the proper authorities accompanied by a prayer that immediate action be taken upon our appeal for better mail service.’
It was also voted that the Secretary be instructed to give the wildest press publicity to this action. Peculiar significance is to be found in the fact that this meeting was of no particular political complexion. The many Liberals present, though sharing the sentiment of all, endeavored to modify the measures to a milder tones. The grievances of the people of Golden City briefly enumerated are these:
First, that the so-called ‘Porcupine’ post office is really located in Pottsville, half a mile across the lake from Golden City, that it can only be reached during one-half of the year by boat, requiring a trip, and that this location is despite the fact that more than two-thirds of the entire population served live on the Golden City side of the lake.
Second, that while Golden City will soon be a railroad station upon the Porcupine branch of the T. & N. O. Railway, the mail will ever as at present necessarily have to pass through Golden City in order to reach Pottsville, the railroad passing around the opposite shore of the lake. That it is in consequence the logical location for a post office and that the office in Pottsville should either be removed to the larger town and railroad session, or that a new office should be established there.
Fiery speeches during the meeting alleged that this neglect was due to undue influence or pull by Acting Postmaster Lloyd, either political or friendly upon or with the Deputy Minister. It was also alleged that inspectors sent into the territory to investigate the situation bad recommended that a post office be established in Golden City and that such recommendations had been unavailable; that even the statement of Chief Superintendent Ross, that he believed Golden City had a just grievance, had elicited no responsive action. The spleen of criticism, however, reached its most scathing denunciation when an attending intercessor avowed that the Deputy Minister had said Golden City will probably get her post office sooner or later, but it will never be with my consent.’
The people of Golden City feel that it is high time that Government officials cease to give preference to North-place, kinship or political creditors by depriving a thousand people of the rights and privileges to which they are justly entitled.

Several senators who will question the nominee at a Thursday hearing oppose the proposal.
Excerpt from this Washington Post article:
President Trump’s pick to lead the National Park Service will face questions from senators this week about whether he believes that the agency should charge protesters for the costs of security and further limit where in Washington demonstrators can gather.
It’s a litmus test that could determine how divisive the nominee may become.
David Vela, superintendent at Grand Teton National Park, is scheduled to appear Thursday before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Senators will have a chance to ask him about more than a dozen proposed Park Service rule changes.
Several committee members already have raised objections: In a letter sent last month to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, 16 senators wrote that they were “deeply concerned this rule will impede the public’s First Amendment rights to protest in and around our capitol.”

If government gives the OK to remove beach rock along Seven Mile Beach, can a group of citizens legally protest the decision and the operation? Auntie’s answer: I approached the Human Rights Commission (HRC) about your question, but they are only able to answer in general terms. The commission can point to what rights are guaranteed under the Cayman Islands Constitution but cannot offer legal…

NLRB Judge Rules That Walmart Illegally Punished California Workers For Participating In Protests

ALGIERS (Reuters) - Hundreds of Algerian policemen staged a sit-in outside the main government offices in Algiers on Wednesday demanding better working conditions on a third day of public protests by police officers. Security forces rarely take to the streets in the North African country, where the Front de Liberation Nationale party and the military have dominated politics since 1962 independence from France, although protests over jobs, housing and pay are common. ...
