NCAA Removes the Name and Likeness Release
With the O'Bannon case yet to be decided, the NCAA has preemptively decided to remove the name-and-likeness release from the Student-Athlete Statement.
While O'Bannon should still win the case in the end, I believe this is a major victory for student-athletes in general. Without that release, student-athletes will now be able to participate in the NCAA sports without signing away their publicity rights in perpetuity, the way it should have been all along.
