Summary: Noct steals a moment with Nyx in the halls of the Citadel
There were very few hallways that could be called quiet during these sorts of events and banquets. There were even fewer moments like this, where Nyx could press close to Noctis and see a real smile rather than the polite mask that will be offered up to every guest just down the halls. There were few moments to steal the prince away like this, slipping them into a decorative alcove in a hallways lined with the paintings of ancient heroes and kings.
The kiss was sudden, desperate, and Nyx tried very, very hard not to let himself get lost in it. Noctis had grabbed his sleeve and pulled him this way. Noctis had smiled up to him when he tried to remind the brat that King Regis would be coming through this very same hallways any minute. And it was Noctis who just smiled and kissed him anyway.
It was hard not to let his hands slip to Noct’s hips, to not press closer and ruin the careful appearance Noct had been groomed into for the event just beyond those heavy doors. It was hard not to let his full attention settle on the prince desperately trying to draw him in with a kiss in the shadows of every important Lucian noble that could be gathered. It was hard not to acknowledge the way that Noct’s hands were clutching at his uniform coat, tugging him closer into the little alcove.
He had only meant to wish Noct good luck for his speech. To remind him that he’s there.
The Guard who rushed through the hall was too hurried to notice them there. But Noct released him with a soft laugh and a grin, blush colouring his cheeks. They had enough time to straighten their respective uniforms before Nyx heard the familiar, unique gait of the King. He carefully fixed Noct’s own crown— the delicate twist of silver made in the image of the royal adornments Regis wore— and snapped to attention as the King and the royal Shields approached.
“You good, highness?” Gladio asked as he approached, the flush noted with a curt nod of his head. It was Nyx who noticed the knowing smirk cross the king’s features before they were quickly schooled again for the crowd in the banquet hall beyond the heavy door.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Let’s just get this over with.”
