Always outstanding while out standing in his fields. Junkenstein had found his own play on words amusing even though he neglected to share it with Hayseed. The smallest chuckle emmuting in his throat as the duo made way back to the castle. It had been short-lived as the scarecrow regaled him with what he had been up to.

"...That sounds like an impressive creature." As it had to be stronger than anything Doc knew to be common in the area. No standard fox, rabbit, crow, vole, or other pest could break through steel traps. Though since Hayseed did not further elaborate on how the creature escaped there was a chance it simply was witty enough to set the traps off without getting snared.

"I have been looking into a way to get my zomnics to reactivate previously lost omnics so I don't have to personally reactivate each one. I hit a deadend so I have put a pin in that for now to move my focus elsewhere." Clearly he found that a worthwhile investment if he still wished to return to it. "But I think you might find this other project I've been tasked to do as cool," a small emphasis on the last word as he found the other's phrasing to be amusing.

Ushering Hayseed up the stairs, the door swung open slowly, seemingly on it's own and allowing them access. The doctor not fussing with closing it as the door swung shut behind them. The entry lit up upon their entry, Doc's stride syncing up with Hayseed's in uneven steps that alternated from clicking. His own more crisp of a clack on the hard floor with his metal peg.

"I have been working something that restore metals to their former glory. It targets rust and reverses the oxidation process. Well, not technically..." But explaining the finer details was something to be wasted on everyone else. A disappointing thing really as the good doctor loved to explain in detail the process of his works but no one ever seemed to appreciate it. "But perhaps we might be able to run some tests in the field. Do you have any older traps that might need restoration?"

" How've you been, big guy?" Junkrat beamed," Haven't been causin' to much mayhem without me, right?"

Mako stared down at Jamison, the sound of his heaving breath barely audible through the thick, leathery mask. Even the mere fact that he was staring was thoroughly veiled; the glass fitted into his mask was tinted very heavily, to the point of his eyes being obscured wholly behind black. It was only by the grace that he had to tilt his head downcast that made it apparent that he was even looking at the other man.

“You wish,” he said, gruff and curt. Mako wasn’t the chattiest man about, which put him and Jamison on opposite sides of the conversational spectrum. “It’s not me you should be worrying about. You better be staying out of trouble.”

When she finally noticed him staring at her, her first thought had been that of anger, though that quickly dissipated. Instead, she turned towards him, laying her gaze upon him and putting a hand to her hip. “See anything interesting there, chérie?” She asked, brows raised, though voice calm.

[Continued from here] @pumpkinpatch-and-tiretracks​ “Yes,” Junkenstein replied curtly. No one ever appreciated his zomnics and that was a real shame. Even those as open minded as Hayseed seemed to be had disliked them. Though if it was an omnic things in general or just the process of bringing them back into operational status was hard to say and Doc did not wish to ask. He merely wished people would give the strange bots a chance.  But it was the lights and other various things the castle held that seemed to delight Hayseed. This was fine. Junkenstein was just going to have to accept that not all of his projects would speak to everyone. At least some of them did to the scarecrow. Well, not like how he claimed the flowers spoke to him but... it was not a perfect metaphor. 

Once in the lab though, Doc then noticed the screws Hayseed had produced from his pockets. “Ah! A test sample. How perfect!” This would actually be great as it meant if it did not work the other would not be down a full trap. Though had Doc been paying full attention like he should of then he would recall the traps were already busted and in need of repairs. Motioning for Hayseed to follow, Junkenstein lead him to a table and signaled for the other to lay the screws down onto it’s surface. While he waited for that, the doctor moved around his lab to collect the glass bottle which contained the solution he had been working on. A viscus fluid that looked like swamp scum and slowly ran out the bottle like one might expect such a thing to once the stopper had been removed.  “If I’m right we can use this to repair all your traps and- goggles! Goggles, Hayseed!” Junkenstein urged the other to retrieve for himself as Doc always had his own set on his person. “Oh wait. Silly me,” Junkenstein realized as Hayseed had his mask on and special goggles built into it. The liquid soon making contact with the rusty screws with a soft fizzling noise though nothing seemed to change at first. Even so the German was smiling broadly to himself in delight as if he could somehow see the changes he believed to be occurring in front of them both. “Soon it should start steaming and release a sulfuric scent. When that begins to change into something stronger we should be able to wipe it off and see the end result!” Junkenstein giggled to himself merrily, nearly stopping his feet in anticipation. “I’m so excited! Aren’t you?”

[Continued from here] @pumpkinpatch-and-tiretracks A distant shout reached him though Junkenstein still shifted his weight nervously from peg to foot and back in wait. There was something strange about fields that were unsettling to him unless it was a well lit day. Perhaps it was just how easy it was to get lost in such a thing as to him everything all looked the same. Just row after row of vegetation.  The unease however did not get to settle in him as soon a familiar form bounded out of the fields and crashed into him. The wind temporarily knocked from his lungs only to return with a soft chuckle as Hayseed affectionately nuzzled against him. “And I you,” the doctor returned in greeting.  Giving the scarecrow a firm hug back and trying to ignore the scratchy nature of the dirty burlap mask, Junkenstein beamed as he released his hold only to try and guide Hayseed away from the field.  “Tell me, what have you been up to? It has been a while since I last seen you. Have you seen or been up to anything exciting?”

[Continued from here] @pumpkinpatch-and-tiretracks So Hayseed had simply been curious? The poor sweet dear. A soft tsk coming from the doctor himself though the note to it was endearing.  “You need a slide with it containing a sample for it to work as intended.” But it was kind of cute how the other was interested if only because he seen him stare into the device for long periods of time and scribble down notes. “And even that takes some adjusting so you can see what’s there.” With a small huff and wave of one hand, Junkenstein dismissed the ordeal. At least the microscope could be replaced. It would be a costly piece certainly but... it was still replaceable.  “How about for now you go play in the fields for a bit? You’ve certainly earned some fun free time.” Not that Hayseed wasn’t able to rush about in the corn, wheat, or sunflowers all he wanted anyway but maybe it would help him stay in a good mood if he just spooked some birds while Doc could take a quick inventory of what else might have been damaged before the lesson of being gentle and self aware of one’s own strength.

[Continued from here] @pumpkinpatch-and-tiretracks​ It was kind of funny in a sense, referring to being gentle with things as being like a mama cat but if that was what it took to get the message across then so be it. Besides, Junkenstein adored the stay cats that darted around the castle and kept the pests at bay.  It was when Hayseed declared that he would not break anything anymore that the very corners of his mouth wavered in a smile. Had he put too much pressure on the other? Perhaps that was just another lesson in wait for if anything were to break later. A lesson of: Sometimes mistakes happen. It’s not the end of the world. “You are a good boy, Hayseed.” Arms found their way around him and the doctor stilled, letting the scarecrow embrace him. His should still ached but it was fading which had to be a good sign. 

“Any time.” The bit of praise had been nice but the sincerity of it warmed the doctor’s heart in a way pretty words could not. Carefully Junkenstein worked his arms around the other and patted his back. “You can always come to me if you have any questions or need help with something.” The patting stopped as he settled for just holding Hayseed close a moment longer before letting go. “But tell me, what were you attempting to look at with my microscope?”

[Continued from here] @pumpkinpatch-and-tiretracks​ Hayseed was a winsome character, that was for certain. His need to touch everything had been irksome but sometimes people, inhuman or not, could not help their mindset or compulsions. It was promising though to see the scarecrow try and actually do so well in curbing the amount of strength he used to move things. At least for now. Hopefully this lesson would actually stick. Eyes turned to him for guidance as the other carried the chair slowly across the room as instructed. They were met with an observant stare as Doc barely moved in an attempt not to interfere with the outcome as he would not always be right there with Hayseed. Even so, his head did ever so faintly nod in encouragement.  As the four wooden legs made contact with the floor again, Doc finally allowed himself to smile proudly. Such swift progress!

“Splendid work, Hayseed!” Proud as he was it was only when the other came trotting over to him and wrapped him into a firm hug that he noticed some out of place thread. Arms soon retreated and while that did take the strain off of his left Junkenstein half wished to be held again as he enjoyed the simple act of affection. “You did so well,” he cooed. “And no. I’m... fine.” He nodded again only to let his smile ebb a little. “I am proud of you. Do you think that you can remember to be like the mama cat whenever something starts to break?”
