oh ray, ray, where art thou aran ryan headcanons
OHOHO YOU HAVE SUMMONED ME!
1. Aran Ryan is my husband… okay jokes aside here are some *REAL* headcanons
1. Aran Ryan loves fluffy blankets. He likes it when it’s freezing outside so he can wrap himself in multiple of them.
2. He has a great friendship with piston hondo despite them never being seen together in public outside of the ring.
3. His favourite movie franchise is the evil dead franchise. Because he finds it hilarious whenever someone gets killed off.
4. He cheered when mr sandman took the champions belt title before mac came around because it meant Super macho man didn’t get the title
5. Aran has done drag before. Multiple times actually.
6. He is absolutely terrified of spiders. Not any other bugs. Just the tiny house spiders. Not even the large ones.
7. He enjoys when the crowd boos him, because it just boosts his ego.
8. He likes to jump out on glass joe in the streets at random moments.
9. He has done boxing before with several broken bones.
10. He owns two black cats. Both of which are extremely aggressive towards everyone BESIDES him and piston hondo
11. He is taking every other boxer to see the barbie movie.
12. He absolutely adores the postal franchise (accept for postal 3)
That enough for you?
Joe has a ragdoll cat named Miette. Miette has nothing behind those big sweet eyes of hers, not a single thought within her fluffy little head. She is the absolute center of Joe’s world and he spoils her rotten.
Kaiser has a miniature schnauzer named Jäger. For having such a tough name, Jäger spends less time on the prowl and more time providing emotional support for his dad. They even have matching moustaches!
Disco has an entire room in his fancy house dedicated to his aviary, specifically 4 lovebirds, 3 budgies, 2 cockatiels, 2 doves, and a canary. He loves his flock of songbirds, and has named every one of them after Disco and Funk legends from the 70s and 80s.
Hondo has a Russian Blue kitten named Maru. Maru is a bit of a handful and noisy to boot, much to Hondo’s chagrin, though it seems to be some misguided attempt on Maru’s part to protect his owner. Hondo is hoping he’ll grow out of it as he grows older.
Hugger considers all woodland life to be his friends! Ms. Bear and Chatters the squirrel are the constants, but he’s built an impressive rapport with nearly all the animals in his neck of the woods. A real Disney princess, this one is!
Tiger, of course, has his beloved Khan. After rescuing him as a cub some years ago, they’ve become an inseparable pair even during the boxing season. He’s fiercely loyal to Tiger, and Tiger considers him to be his right-hand feline.
Soda has two huskies, Zhenya and Pasha, both named after his brothers. They’re fairly recent additions to his household (upping the numbers from 1 to 3), just a little over a year old, but they do wonders to keep Soda company.
Bull doesn’t have pets, per se, but for many years now he’s found kinship with the bulls that belong to a ranch near his childhood home. Every off season when he returns to Turkey, he makes time to visit the fields and spend some downtime with the herd.
Macho has three Dobermans, Bullet, Bruiser, and Butch. They’re magnificent guard dogs, keeping watch of his estate while he’s gone, but as soon as he comes home they’re all wagging tails and excited yips. Bruiser was not actually named after the brothers, no matter what Rick thinks.
Sandman has a Bombay kitten named Bea. She’s hardly bigger than one of his hands, but she’s completely fearless around him and is quick to climb all over him the second he sits down.
What kind of drunk are each of the Wii boxers?
Glass Joe - Joe primarily is a wine drinker and holds it magnificently, to where it hardly affects him. However, if he were to have heavier stuff, he would be a sleepy drunk who just lays his head on the bar counter and watches the world spin. He doesn’t particularly like the feeling, as it just calls to mind all the times he’s been knocked silly in the ring. He would need a ride home, as in this state he’d take two steps and stumble. He usually tries to avoid this, and prefers to stick to what he knows he can tolerate.
Drink(s) of choice: Red wines (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, etc.)
Von Kaiser - Kaiser in a drunken state is a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, he’s much calmer. His usual tics and shudders are muted to hardly being noticeable at all, if not outright halted. On the other hand, Kaiser is a sad drunk through and through. He’s usually able to hold his liquor decently, but being drunk makes him reflective and he tends to openly lament things about his life and past he would usually keep a tight lid on when sober.
Drink(s) of choice: Lagers (Beck’s, Budweiser), Jägermeister
Disco Kid - Disco Kid is a fun, animated, and absolutely messy drunk. Once he’s gone, his only goal for the rest of the night is having the time of his life. He’ll blow up his friends’ and coworkers’ phones with affectionate texts, riddled with caps lock, typos, and emojis. Strangely enough, he’s still remarkably coordinated and maintains orientation when inebriated - he’s about as good a dancer sloshed as he is sober, and potentially a better drunk boxer too.
Drink(s) of choice: Fruity cocktails (Mojitos, Daiquiris, Margaritas, etc.), standard beer
King Hippo - Usually, Hippo’s so hefty that a few drinks don’t actually do much to him. He’s too big and his tolerance is too high; to get wasted he would have to drink enough to put a normal man in a coma. He’d have to down a whole bottle of something strong like vodka or tequila to feel the effects, and when he does he’s almost completely immobilized. The nearby bar has put a cap on how much Hippo’s allowed to have, since they’ve had to leave him overnight more than once while he slept off the booze.
Drink(s) of choice: Palm wines, Vermouth
Piston Hondo - In terms of casual drinking, Hondo has a good tolerance and knows his own limits. If he feels a buzz coming on, he’s done with alcohol for the night. However, should something happen to where he has more than he anticipated, he becomes animated. Drunk Hondo is talkative, gestures a lot, and is much more touchy-feely than sober Hondo would ever be, as well as being less formal and humble. He’s incredibly embarrassed by his drunk self and keeps careful eye on his consumption to avoid losing face.
Drink(s) of choice: Sake, standard beer, a shot of Whiskey or two
Bear Hugger - When hammered, Bear Hugger is another cheerful drunk for approximately two minutes before he’s out cold. It takes a while of drinking for anything to happen, but when it does it hits him all at once. Once asleep you’d best steer clear, because his brain’s still in affection mode - anyone unfortunate to be within arm’s reach will likely be snatched into a bear hug and rendered helpless until he wakes up.
Drink(s) of choice: Whiskey, Yukon Jack
Great Tiger - Like Hondo, Tiger is careful not to overdo his intake and keep himself mostly lucid. He isn’t much of a drinker overall and really only partakes socially anyway, and is more or less still himself after a few drinks, if not a little looser. But, also as with Hondo, if he has too much he doesn’t handle it well at all. He’s a clumsy, dizzy drunk, and has difficulty keeping himself upright. Trying to walk will result in stumbling, poofing around the room in an attempt to put off his fall, before ultimately succumbing and face-planting anyway.
Drink(s) of choice: Palm wines, standard beer
Don Flamenco - Drunk Don is just about as romantic and affectionate as Sober Don is, though about five times as off-kilter. The extent varies depending on how much he’s had, but the harder the drink, the sloppier the matador. He’ll sing to himself and others, dishing out compliments and flirting regardless of gender or marital status, before ultimately needing to be walked (or carried) home. Needless to say, Don Flamenco parties hard.
Drink(s) of choice: Chinchón, Tequila
Aran Ryan - Wouldn’t you know it? Aran Ryan is probably more tolerable drunk than he is sober. Most people drinking with him the first time are shocked to see an Aran more relaxed and less aggressive, something closer to his disposition in his Branch B days. Something about the drink just mellows him out, and after a long day of being loud and animated and volatile, sometimes all he really needs is a moment to unwind with some of the lads and set aside the nastiness for a while.
Drink(s) of choice: Guinness, Jameson whiskey
Soda Popinski - Abstains! Years ago he was a heavy vodka drinker (hence his first alias, Vodka Drunkenski), but it only made him feel angry and bitter all the time. Since switching to his experimental soda he’s given up alcohol of any kind, not only as a personal choice but because the alcohol would interfere with the soda in his system and ultimately nullify the effects. He was required to quit cold turkey - but at least now he still gets to experience the highs of intoxication without the acute liver damage! But is he really any better off overall?
Drink(s) of choice: Soda
Bald Bull - Bull very rarely goes out to drink, especially in public bars, but if at a gathering with friends in some private estate, you might be able to talk him into having a few. Even then Bull really only drinks to get buzzed, as having any more tends to loosen him up more than he’d care to. For being such a guarded and personal man, enough liquor can make him remarkably affectionate - and he hates that with every fiber of his being. If anyone tries to remind him of something nice or heartfelt he’d said or done when drunk, he’ll deny it up and down and insists you were merely seeing things.
Drink(s) of choice: Raki, Tequila or Vodka when Raki predictably isn’t available
Super Macho Man - Macho’s a perfect host, as long as he's active and schmoozing and putting his arm around people and laughing it up, eating the attention up and chewing the scene he's good! He doesn’t like to sit or stay in one place too long, otherwise other, more self-conscious and doubtful thoughts will start surfacing in the drink. Simply put, Macho is a sad drunk masquerading as a happy drunk, and he’ll do what he can to make sure that illusion never breaks.
Drink(s) of choice: Dom Perignon, Remy Martin, all kinds of pricey brandys/whiskeys/wines
Mr. Sandman - Similarly to Aran, a drunk Sandman is much more mellow and calm than his sober self. That’s not to say he’s particularly affectionate or soft, but he is a certain level more approachable. That said, should one of the guys say something mushy in their inebriated states, a drunk Sandman is likely to offer the sentiment back - Hell, he might even drop a genuine smile here and there.
Drink(s) of choice: Standard beer, Hennessey
Here's a bunch of character-specific headcanons we answered on Instagram over the past couple of days! There's technically one more, but that one came with another character unlock so it gets its own post.~ 🌟
on a scale of one to ten, how much does each boxer swear?
0:
Peter Punch. Too pure, too kind.
Dragon Chan. The idea of swearing makes him feel uncouth.
King Hippo. It's unbecoming of a King to have a foul mouth.
Little Mac. He mutters things like crap under his breath sometimes, but otherwise isn't much of a swearer. It helps that he doesn't talk a lot in general!
1-3:
Heike Kagero. He prefers a more polite, delicate way of speaking.
Piston Hondo. His vocabularly is dignified, though occasionally has let a kuso or kisama slip out. He's embarrassed about it later on.
Glass Joe. He feels swearing is immature, but has uttered a curse or two over the years.
Great Tiger. Not much of a swearer at all. He considers it lacking manners.
Disco Kid. Not afraid to use damn here and there, but shies away from the harsher words.
Bear Hugger. It's not his personality to use anything harsher than doggone or confound it, but like Disco has been known to say things like dammitall.
Hoy Quarlow. Doesn't swear often in his day-to-day conversations, but sometimes will drop a curse out of the blue just to mess with however's listening.
Nick Bruiser. Like Mac, doesn't really speak often enough to warrant a particularly high rating - though he's willing to drop bigger bombs than Mac is.
4-6:
Doc Louis. Has toned it down considerably since taking Mac under his wing, but isn't a stranger to some of the more colorful words the English language has to offer.
Referee. He can get his point across without swearing, but that's not to say he doesn't do it at all.
Narcis Prince. Similarly to Joe and Dragon, Narcis views profanity as boorish. He does, however, drop less-than-refined language when particularly riled up (bloomin', bloody, wanker, buggered, etc.).
Gabby Jay. Less reserved about it than Joe is, but at the same time considers potty mouths like Aran and Muscle to be ignoramuses.
Bob Charlie. His opinion on cursing is as lax as his opinion on everything else. If the situation calls for it, use it! If it doesn't, use something else.
Von Kaiser. When calm, his usage of swears is virtually nonexistent. If angered he'll explode, including a variety of curses upon whoever's responsible.
Mad Clown. While his language isn't usually as profane as the WVBA's other Italian boxer, sometimes when he rambles and rants to himself he's not exactly polite about it.
7-9:
Don Flamenco. Not actually too much of a swearer regularly, but a big user of joder - especially when Aran's around.
Super Macho Man. Of course he uses bogus, as we're all well aware, though he still uses the typical choices often.
Soda Popinski. Has mellowed out over the years, but in his youth was pretty crass. Still occasionally gets a little spicy when worked up.
Birdy. Loves a good cuss word! Tones it down around his dad and coach, though when around friends he'll let it fly.
Rick Bruiser. Casual swearer, dropping them whenever he feels it necessary, though he doesn't go out of his way to squeeze one in all willy-nilly.
Mr. Sandman. To match his intense demeanor, he comes equipped with an intense vocabulary.
Bald Bull. Comes with the territory of having anger issues. Let them hear him curse up a storm! Maybe they'll leave faster.
Piston Hurricane. Lax about swearing in everyday conversations, considering them more modifiers than expletives. He likes the emphasis!
10:
Masked Muscle. Swearing's basically his third language. When he's in a good mood, when he's in a bad mood, talking about friends, talking about enemies, talking about the lunch he had the other day.
Aran Ryan. Mouth of a sailor. If he can get a swear in, he'll do it. Has zero filter for decency.
Pizza Pasta. Just as foul-mouthed as Aran, if not moreso, though he usually uses Italian expletives.
Headcanons: Who Can Sing? [Part 1]
As Disco Kid pointed out in a previous post, Glass Joe has quite the set of baritone pipes on him. He usually isn’t trying to show off, or even really have anyone hear him - he’ll usually only sing when not paying attention to himself and zoning out while doing menial tasks. (We think a good example of what he’d sound like is Yves Montaud’s cover of La Vie En Rose!)
Von Kaiser... cannot sing, and he knows it. He doesn’t try. The last time he really sang was with his mother as a child, when she would sing him nursery rhymes before bed and/or to soothe him after a bad day. His skill hasn’t developed beyond that, and he doesn’t really have plans to change that.
Disco Kid can sing and will sing. Whether it’s jamming out to his favorite records while at home, listening to his headphones during practice, blasting his tunes from his car while speeding down the highway, or singing a ditty to himself for himself, Disco will find any opportunity to flex his vocal chords for any (or no) audience.
King Hippo’s ‘singing’ is different than what most would be used to, but in his community, his voice is considered renowned. To most mainlanders, it would sound something like harmonious throat singing combined with bassy roars and bullfrog-like croaking - it sure is popular with the Hippoan ladies, though!
Hondo has an all-around decent voice. He’s no professional and he doesn’t really do it often, but sometimes when he’s alone, he’ll quietly sing popular J-pop songs beneath his breath to kill time. If he was to perform for someone (good luck convincing him to do so!), he would opt for something more classic, like Sakura, Sakura or Akatombo.
Hugger's not the greatest but he's so much better than you'd ever expect. His typical voice is a little rugged, but when he hears a song he really likes or feels like getting out the old banjo, he'll knock your socks off with how smooth and sweet his voice can be. Not signing any record deals, but you also probably wouldn't ask him to tone it down if you heard him either.
Great Tiger has an impressive grasp on his own voice. His range and control are insane, able to hold notes for as long as he wants and smoothly nailing runs like a hot knife through ghee. He’s not above showing off, vocalizing to himself in the locker rooms when he knows people can hear him.
Don will sing anytime, anywhere, for any reason or none at all. When he's in love he'll actually do it quite a bit at random, be it humming to himself in moments of dizzy daydreaming about them, or crooning softly into their ear while he has them in his arms. His voice is as smooth and passionate as his dance moves. He can hold a note, he can and will purr his words, and he has an impressive range to boot. He just loves what he does.
Aran Ryan does not sing. Aran Ryan hollers at the top of his lungs, out of key, at the same time he’s blaring loud Irish rock music with crude lyrics. His lodging neighbors are big fans of it! By which we mean whoever isn’t yelling at him to knock it off is astral projecting to take themselves away from the racket.
Soda isn’t much of a singer so much as he’s another holler-er, but at least Soda has the decency to carry a tune. He’s not really trying to be good or taking it seriously at all, he just has a good time singing pub tunes, sea shanties, and Russian folk songs.
You will never hear Bald Bull sing. No one will ever hear Bald Bull sing. But this doesn’t mean he never does - it strictly must be when he’s alone and even then he’s quiet about it, but he’s by no means bad. It’s not that he’s shy or doesn’t like singing, it’s just that it feels vulnerable and he wants to keep it to himself.
Super Macho Man also isn’t looking to go pro, but he’s not particularly ear-grating. He likes to sing along to his own music, but he’s very straightforward in terms of technique and can only hold a note for so long.
Perhaps unexpected, but Mr. Sandman has a really rather pleasant bass register. He doesn’t do it often and certainly not for anyone to listen in on, but you could definitely consider him to be talented. He’s a crooner!
Little Mac will sing to himself sometimes, but it isn’t his forte. Usually it’s when listening to his music in his earpods while running laps or riding his bike, otherwise he’s his typical quiet self.
Doc isn’t much of a singer either and he’s fine with that, but that doesn’t stop him from casually singing anyway. On top of that, he gets a kick out of doing a really lame Louis Armstrong impression just to make Mac laugh. (”I SEE FIELDS OF GREEN--”)
-- Mod Meep
So, do you guys have any hobbies outside of the ring?
Little Mac
While Mac does devote much of his time to training and preparing for his next matches, he's still a teenage boy! That bike is good for casual rides too, and when he and Doc have some time they'll go riding through the streets of New York (while avoiding fans!). Video games are another go-to pastime; he and Birdy get together to game pretty frequently, though he also makes the effort to teach Doc how to play. Doc's still figuring out how to manage newer generation controllers.
Glass Joe
When out of the ring, Glass Joe greatly enjoys his time to be spent in calm, quiet comfort. He frequents libraries and book shops for new reading material, then makes himself cozy in his reading chair with his cat Miette on his lap. When he chooses to leave the house, he'll drop by his usual café and pick up a snack and a cup of coffee - sometimes he'll visit the café twice in one day if he'd already gone there for breakfast.
Von Kaiser
Von Kaiser's never been one for idling, and prefers even his free time to be productive and/or busy. Otherwise, he just feels antsy! He's got a collection of boots to be polished, bookshelves to be reorganized, training equipment to be tidied and touched up, anything to keep his mind from wandering and his hands occupied. Additionally, he'll take his dog Jäger out for walks around the neighborhood.
Disco Kid
Oh, it's not too hard to imagine! Disco Kid loves the nightlife, hosting parties at his own place or going out to whatever club he can find around town. He just wants to dance and have a good time! Sometimes he'll cruise down the highways going nowhere in particular, blasting his music out of his sports car and flashing the fancy lights he's got, making a real spectacle of himself and his ride.
King Hippo
King Hippo is a simple monarch, and if there aren't any important kingly duties he has to attend to, you can usually find him feasting, resting, or zonked out with a hunk of food still in his hand - best of both worlds! Since coming to the Mainland, he's developed an interest in trying other global cuisines and determining if they compare to his own tastes and what he usually dines on at home. As of now he has determined that spicy foods do not spark joy.
Piston Hondo
Piston Hondo is another who enjoys quiet simplicity. Though he devotes much of his time to meditation and training, he also takes great pleasure in the culinary arts of his culture. He’ll spend hours cooking traditional meals to perfection, and he’s nearly mastered the art of the tea ceremony. Other hobbies include reading (though he’d be hard pressed to tell you what he usually reads), calligraphy, and painting.
Bear Hugger
Bear Hugger’s an outdoorsman, through and through! He spends many hours enjoying the wilderness with his wildlife friends, cooking hearty meals over campfires, hiking through tundras and mountains, and maybe even a game or two of hockey if he’s got the time for it. You could also say boxing’s a bit of a hobby for him - his usual gig is lumberjacking and carpentry!
Great Tiger
Like his friend Hondo, Great Tiger spends much of his time meditating and honing his magical abilities. Speaking of, though he could and has easily sold out arenas to see him perform his wonders, he’d just as soon travel the streets of his hometown and perform tricks for delighted locals free of charge. Like Kaiser, he also takes satisfaction in regularly reorganizing his living space and belongings, just to shake things up.
Don Flamenco
Of course, the obvious answer would be his dancing skills. Which is true! Don Flamenco and Disco Kid often spend nights out at local clubs, where both of them display their abilities for whoever happens to have their eyes on them. But at home, he tends to his flower garden that grows carnations, asters, dahlias, and of course - roses, his pride and joy. Would you believe Don doesn’t mind a little dirt here and there?
Aran Ryan
Aran Ryan’s favorite pastime is, without a doubt, annoying people. Needless to say he’s quite the prankster, lurking around the WVBA gyms for anyone he can mess with, usually some hapless soul just trying to get a workout in. If he’s stuck in the lodgers? Might as well crank his music up as high as it goes to piss off the neighbors! He’s picked up tagging as a hobby too, though mostly keeps it in America.
Soda Popinski
On many days after vigorous training at the WVBA facility, Soda Popinski and his buddy Aran go bar-hopping around town, even if the sun’s still up. Soda’s not drinking liquor anymore, of course, but he does get totally sloshed on soda! Those evenings usually end with both men drunkenly stumbling back to their lodgings, belting pub songs out of key. But on days when he’d rather take it easy, you can find him reading, knitting, or... wrestling bears in the mountains.
Bald Bull
Whatever he’s doing, Bald Bull values his time spent privately away from the public eye. Visiting hot springs and saunas are a tried and true way for him to relax. Back home he lives near a few foothills with herds of wild cattle, and will spend time bonding (and training) with the bulls there. Plus, he’s good at construction! Does he need another firepit in the backyard? No. Is he making one anyway? He’s already halfway done.
Super Macho Man
Hosting lavish and expensive parties with groupies and other socialites? Check. Calling up one of the many numbers in his phone and taking a lucky lady out for a wild night on the town? Check. Showing up to other parties and events and totally stealing the show? Check, check, check. But what Macho loves most is actually a solo activity, out of the limelight - he loves to surf on his private beach, spending hours catching sun and taming waves.
Mr. Sandman
Mr. Sandman is one of those weirdos who legitimately goes to the gym for fun. Whether lifting weights, using the machines, or getting in some cardio exercises, you can be sure that Sandman’s showing up literally everybody else with how efficient and effortless his routines are. But would you have pegged him as being a science fiction and fantasy fan? He’s got quite the sizable collection of novels!
