his words bring an indescribable warmth,   her heart is light and warm,  and it’s as if her breath has been captured from her lungs.  there’s tenderness in the way she looks at him,  searching the depths of her mind for a response  —  it feels so difficult:  figuring out how to respond to such breathtaking words.  after a brief pause,  lily finds herself letting out a delighted laugh...  and three simple words fall from her lips.

        SHE HAD never gone home from work sick. Ever. But, for some reason, she had felt something different about this. She had become Fire Chief only a few months ago, one of her goals, and she really was loving life. She had the dream job, she had her own dream man.. She was lucky. But today, something felt off. She eyed the pregnancy test in the bathroom, as if staring at it was going to make the time go faster. Because that clearly wasn’t going to happen. Taking in a deep breath, Maya sat on the closed toilet seat with her lip between her teeth. She was anxious, so incredibly anxious. She and Frank had spoken about children, only a handful of times though. But here they were. Hearing the timer go off, Maya stood up and walked towards the test, letting out the breath she was holding in. Positive. Hearing the front door close, Maya chuckled to herself, pretty good timing. The blonde calls out softly “Frank can you come into the bathroom PLEASE?”.

   For days she’s felt off.  That’s what she keeps telling herself.  That it’s only been for the last few days.  However, if she was more in the habit of being honest with herself, she’d know she’s felt this way for the past year — her HEART ACHING and everyday becoming more difficult than the last.  She tells herself it’s worse this week because she can barely get herself to get out of bed for anything other than work.  She takes on more cases.  She buries herself in paperwork upon paperwork.  She turns to her first love: books.  Nothing works. 

   All she keeps thinking about his him. 

   She thinks of his face and she reads her paperwork aloud to think better.  She thinks of his voice and she turns on the radio for background noise.  No matter what she does her mind keeps replaying the horrific thing she said when she ended it.  ‘I don’t know who I am when I'm with you !’

   Another lie she told herself.  

   More truthfully, she didn’t know who she was after the war.  All her childhood had been full of fighting for or against something, and while she still has her work with House-Elves, it isn’t the same.  She’s grown so accustomed to the urgency of war that without it, she’d been lashing out at those around her. 

   Now, against her better judgment, she finds herself facing toward the one she let go and never should have.  Tears stream down her face.  Her breaths are uneven.  She doesn’t even realize she’s actually going there until he opens the door from her frantic knocking.
