Grace and frankie commission for @puntless thank you so much!!!! 🥺🥺🥺
idk if I know you liked bsg but boy did seeing laura roslin on my dash put a smile on my face today!!!!!! have a great day!
Awwww, yay! I didn't watch BSG when it aired, but not long after it ended I got very, very into it. Although I was a casual lurker-reader on some fic and even wrote a Lee/Laura drabble for a comment fic-a-thon (het! I wrote het!) I was primarily really absorbed in the world for awhile without feeling particularly fannish in a transformative works kinda way. Such a great show and one of the most immersive TV experiences I've ever had! And Laura Roslin was (OBVIOUSLY) my favorite character. What about you?!
Hope you have a great day as well!
🔥🔥🔥 (three unpopular opinions about gaming, please)
oooh okay
1. i would much rather wait 3-5+ years for a game to come out if that means the game is going to be polished, bug free and generally a really fleshed out story rather than pissing my pants every time a game gets delayed ... i know it can be frustrating but don’t you want the game to be. idk, good?
in general i wish games were in development a bit longer for the same reasons but also so workers aren’t doing ridiculously long hours per week. it’s physically impossible to have a fast release and an ethical work environment
2. paper mario and the origami king has been the only game on the switch to genuinely impress me and i don’t even really like paper mario or mario in general all that much. it also has a really good soundtrack
3. im kinda struggling for this last one so what i will say is can we PLEASE get more co-op campaign/story driven games ive had ENOUGH of mass online multiplayer arena whatever the fucks (though i know that part for sure isn’t an unpopular opinion in the slightest)
i wanna play the story the same quality as a single player campaign only there's a co-op partner with me. thats it. you kinda realise how in short supply that genre of gameplay is when your best friend lives 2000 miles away from you
Hi! The store page is down, is it still possible at all to get a copy of this zine? Thanks!
All of our sales have now closed however we are waiting for postal services to return so we can sent our leftover orders! We are planning to reopen the store temporarily when we can begin posting again so that there is one final opportunity to get a copy, but for now that’s not possible!
Thank you for showing interest!
Mod Fred
all prime numbers for the Ted Lasso asks!
Yay, thank you!
2. what’s your go to karaoke song?
“Money Money Money” by ABBA but always with at least one other person because I am fundamentally a karaoke coward. I can carry a tune but something about a microphone makes me feel like I can’t tell what I actually sound like at all; it’s like all the normal sensory inputs skew. So I very much rely on safety in numbers for karaoke.
3. what’s your opinion on mustaches?
Jason Sudeikis can keep his. JD Samson can keep hers. It’s really a case-by-case basis for me and mustaches.
5. do you enjoy baking? do you bake for the people in your life?
Already answered but YES I love to bake and I love to give away my baking; it is truly one of life’s greatest joys.
7. do you wear a watch or look at your phone for the time?
I look at my phone. :(
11. is there a food that brings you back home and makes you feel warm n fuzzy?
Italian Cream Cake. It’s something I associate with both sides of my family. We are 0% Italian on both sides, but I think Italian Cream Cake may also be 0% Italian? Anyway, it’s amazing and a really comforting reminder of home.
13. are you concerned with winning and losing?
Yes and no. I’m a very competitive person but I’m not a sore loser. If I’m truly trying, or if—in a team situation—everyone is truly trying, then I couldn’t care less about the score or the outcome. But if the amount I care feels mismatched and I can trace a defeat back to that? Then I’m gonna feel genuine regret and disappointment.
17. do you like puns?
Already answered but yes. Puns make me happy.
19. do you dig on flan or biscuits? what’s your favorite dessert?
I like flan. (It’s neither love nor hate, but closer to the love end of the spectrum.) I like British biscuits more than flan. And I love, love, love American biscuits. They’re one of my favorite things to make; it’s such an easy way to make a weekend breakfast special. If you want to make your scrambled eggs feel like a million bucks, make some southern American biscuits for them to sit on! My favorite dessert is pie.
for the random asks: all the prime numbers!
Thanks friend! :D
2. do you believe in soulmates?
I do, actually! I don’t believe in soulmates in a particularly spiritual way—I don’t think there’s one single person predestined to be the “right” fit for another one person. I do think there are some people in life who just resonate at a different, more lasting, more intense frequency than a typical relationship. Maybe it’s a friendship. Maybe it’s a sexual connection. Maybe both. People who keep discovering weird commonalities and uncanny parallels even after being together for years...or maybe they’re wildly different people who nonetheless click in an almost addictive way. I think that’s what a soulmate is. It feels kinda magical even if the relationship itself takes the same practical effort that other relationships do. It’s a concept that makes me very happy.
I think it’s possible that someone might experience that remarkable kind of soulmate connection to more than one person in their lifetime, and for another to never make that type of connection to another person, and for those facts to not necessarily mean much about how fulfilling life is for that person, if they’re happy, etc. It’s an important thing, but not everything.
^ found via quick and lazy google search, which is why it looks a little weird compared to how I’d edit it if I’d taken the shot myself :D
3. would you ever kiss a stranger?
I don’t know what this says about me, but my brain immediately went to outlandish scenarios such as “I’m walking down the street and there’s a stranger being held at gunpoint, and if I don’t kiss this other person the captive will be killed!”
So yeah, sure, there are circumstances in which I’d kiss a stranger. But outside of those outliers, I’ll just stick to kissing my wife. :)
5. do you usually use cash or card?
Usually a card, especially in these pandemic times, but I really like the tangibility of cash. I try to always have at least a little cash in my wallet, especially if I’m traveling, because you never know when you’ll require it--wisdom from my dad that I’ve carried with me into adulthood.
7. do you like your name? if not, what would you change your name to?
I do like my name! I publish under my full name, and nearly everyone outside of that calls me by a (very traditional) nickname (for that name), and I’m happy with both.
11. do you prefer to color with colored pencils, crayons, or markers?
MARKERS! So satisfying.
13. do you have a signature in your style/everyday outfits?
Not really? I like colorful shoes, I have blunt bangs in my hair, my clothes and face are pretty much lazy femme (lots of jeans and SWEATERS, comfy dresses, minimal makeup if any) but none of those things are particularly unique.
17. if you could wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably grey. That would get me options from nearly white to nearly black, and everything would look good together.
19. what’s your favorite social media platform?
Hahahaahahaa, honestly...tumblr. It’s a disaster, but the posts appear chronologically, which is everything I want in a social media platform. I get to anonymously and enthusiastically post about how much Jane Fonda is posting about that squirrel these days. My dashboard is extremely queer. My presence here has no bearing on my professional life.
I’m active on both Instagram and Twitter as well, and there are good and bad things about both, but tumblr’s probably my fave.
23. what was the last text you sent?
“That’s so sweet, though!”
29. do you think __x__ is overrated or underrated?
Skipping this one since I don’t have the thing I’m supposed to compare.
31. do you believe in ghosts?
OK, you know how I believe in soulmates but not in a spiritual/magical way? I’m kind of the same way about ghosts. I don’t think there are wispy white spirits materializing everywhere, but I very much believe that people’s ~~~energy~~~ and memories and experiences don’t just disappear when they die. As a poet, I have a pretty wide view of what a ghost is: a strong memory, an unexplained energy shift, a suddenly-found object, a chill down the spine. All that stuff counts, I think. I’m less interested in whether a ghost is a conscious being having an experience and more interested in what the still-alive people understand to be a ghost.
37. when was the last time you finished a book?
About a week ago. Today or tomorrow I’ll finish Luster by Raven Leilani, which is amazing.
41. who do you think has it easiest: older siblings or younger siblings?
Oof, I think that depends almost entirely on how self-aware the parents are.
43. do you enjoy big groups?
I do, although they stress me out now and probably will for a long time. The last time I was in a big unmasked group was in mid-March, on my last day in office. I was ironically with a LOT of people when we found out we were switching to remote work. Since then, I have been to some Black Lives Matter protests and rallies with nearly everyone masked and as distant as possible. ❤️
In non-pandemic times, I really love a lot of varieties of large group energy: protests/marches, big parties, concerts. I think the carefree way I used to feel in certain group settings like concerts will not be possible for years to come, though, and I’ll have to relearn a relationship to those types of spaces once it is safe(r). I’m on the cusp of introvert/extrovert, though, so even in the best of times I can only be in huge crowds sparingly, and I really need time alone or time with just my wife so that I can recharge.
47. how many followers do you have?
I have 938 tumblr followers.
1, 7, and 8 for the fic writer asks!
Thank you! :D
1. What’s something you’ve written that you know is OOC and you just don’t care?
In the Land Fathoms series (The Devil Wears Prada, Miranda/Andy) I wrote a Miranda who is willing to downsize to an apartment and simplify her lifestyle in a significant way in order to be more true to herself and her relationship with Andy. I don’t think these lifestyle changes were OOC, exactly, but they were at very stark odds with the Miranda we see in the movie. In my story a lot of time passes, Miranda is traumatized by certain events that cause the downsizing to feel healthier and safer than the alternative, and she makes mistakes with Andy that she’s desperate enough not to repeat that the lifestyle change is warranted. Still, a lot of readers (even while leaving positive reviews) told me it was very difficult to imagine Miranda willing to leave her lavish home and give up extravagant possessions. It made me realize that a big chunk of the appeal of DWP is about opulence, the way money makes (some) problems disappear. The anti-materialism of Land Fathoms made that series the most consciously OOC/canon-deviant fic I’ve ever written, even if the decisions felt right for a very changed version of Miranda Priestly.
7. Something you hate to see in dialogue.
Answered here.
Bonus answer: Fic dialogue so eloquent it’s difficult to hear it in the actor’s/character’s voice. (Not that actors or characters aren’t often intelligent and eloquent...it just takes me out a bit when there’s a really amazing narrative insight delivered fully-formed from a character’s mouth while they are clearly still processing!)
8. Something you love to see in dialogue.
Answered here.
Bonus answer: When a writer manages to write overlapping, chaotic dialogue coherently and to great comedic effect! @dollsome-does-tumblr‘s Grace/Frankie story “sure as the sea, it’s just you and me” includes a chapter in which the family gathers to play Celebrity and G&F kick everyone’s asses. That chapter accomplishes what I’m talking about INCREDIBLY well.
From fic writer ask meme.
fake wip: grace and frankie + ufos
Hi, @puntless! I have no idea if you even remember sending me this. I have once again failed to stick to the parameters of the meme (write one sentence from the fake WIP based on the prompt provided) and wrote you a little scene about Grace, Frankie, and (the concept of) UFOs. Well, aliens. I started it ages ago, then got totally absorbed in my 9 to 5 story, but now I’m back!
You can read the scene on AO3. Hope you enjoy!
