Wake up babe, new Pupil Slicer has dropped
(Also new album out Nov 7!)
What I've Been Listening To!
Not the most exciting month, but I've had a few things going on in rotation.
Drain! Great band, love their follow-up to California Cursed and can see it rank high in my year-end list.
Melvins! I see that they're coming here in September with Boris, which sounds like a good time to me. Will definitely try to make it happen.
Pupil Slicer! Another 2023 highlight, I love these guys and hope to see them eventually. Also, I should probably play Outer Wilds...
Pupil Slicer - Blossom
I'm a bigtime metalcore / mathcore girly, but the genres aren't exactly known for innovation or even being good most of the time. You can only slurp up the same few Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan albums before you wonder "do I really like this genre?" Pupil Slicer has reminded me what I love about metal/math-core music. It's intense and violent. It has those wild double bass kicks and winding guitar riffs. When the bass breakdown in Creating The Devil In Our Own Image hit I knew I had found a new favorite album. When the next track, The Song At Creation's End, was an eight minute explosion of nonstop energy I realized that this was a band I was gonna be following from now on.

Experimental rock trio Boris will be heading out to Europe for an extensive tour this April, May, and June for a "Heavy Rock Breakfast", which is the title for their first European tour in four years.
They will bring a couple of bands with them, UK extreme metal/mathcore band Pupil Slicer for the first half of the dates (ending in Stockholm) and Japanese post-black metal band Asunojokei for the second half of the dates (starting in Helsinki and ending in Milan). More in this article:
