Wahh I think Fresh is pretty unsettling for Dream most of the time, so if Fresh every felt real happyness he'd be pretty jazzed!
On the flip-side, I think it would super freak Fresh out to have someone tell him/acknowledge that he's feeling something positive. His perception of himself is so heavily based on the fact that he's like... some strange freaky creature that can't feel positive emotions and is sooo scary that even if he did feel happiness, I don't think he'd admit that, even to himself. To have Dream point it out, too scary to deal with!
[context for why fresh is happy in this is not required, you can insert whatever hc you want, but to me its cus he's friends with CB :-]. this moment kick-starts when he realizes he's genuinely growing attached to CB]
I think... the way I write Nightmare and Fresh, this would be Nightmare's ideal scenario haha, having Fresh as his little pet :-]

I don't think it would ever happen, because Fresh is extremely flighty and any hints of Nightmare getting/taking too much would make him bolt [which I think Fresh could achieve.]
The possibility of Fresh bolting is very realistic to Nightmare, so he knows he can't really enact anything like this either. He has to be content with what Fresh allows. Doesn't stop him from being a bit of a controlling freak though <3

Longer answers undercut
Fresh doesn't strike me as the type to become friends with anyone. He'll be generally friendly with most to make sure he burns no bridges or loses no connections though. I just don't think he'd see many as prospective Friends. He's just not interested, he doesn't trust people.
He'd only become true real friends with people who are putting in a LOT of effort, and have proven to be not threats; Dance, who is a sans, both doesn't want to put much effort into befriending a threatening stranger [without the promise to toriel, sans would have just killed frisk for being a threat to his brother. without anything telling him he Needs to be nice to this threatening stranger [Fresh], I don't think he'd want to put the effort to get to know him], and also can be seen as a threat himself. Fresh probably wouldn't ever be friends, just positive acquiescence. This goes for most sans' I think, only ones who are specifically kinder and more trusting and more determined would really put the effort in [like how paci proved to Fresh they really really wanted to be friends, reaching out over and over even as Fresh pushed them away], so Outer is also out.
[Also, I think the general sans attitude for Fresh is not really "freaked out". Freaked out is more... active prey item feelings, otherwise its just being kinda annoyed and suspicious.]
One of the reasons I think Color has such a good chance of having a positive relationship with Fresh! He's got six human Soul's all representing these positive traits, and so he's very Kind and Perseverant; he'd put in a lot of effort, and not give up, and prove to Fresh over and over again that he only wants to help. That's the type of person who could break down Fresh's walls.
For the other question, Fresh takes hosts in order to protect his soft squishy body, and uses the magic to thermoregulate and keep everything in order I think. If he was very hungry and running low on magic I think he'd start experiencing the cold more fully, but I think that goes for everyone, monster or human.
Been thinking about Color and Fresh recently. [If you saw me post this a bit earlier and delete it, no you didn't!]

I think Fresh sees Color and instantly pegs that guy as a Main Character. The type of guy who's so important to so many people, that bends narratives around him, he's gotta have his own like, fucking, saterday morning cartoon or something. and anime.
So the idea of Color showing any interest in him or in "rehabilitating" him would both entice and freak him out. Main characters have plot armor, sometimes their posse does as well. At the same time, horrible things frequently happen to those who surround a main character. Dead wives, fridging, killing characters off to push the main character's story arc further. That all seems very plausible to Fresh.
So for Fresh... he would be considering between getting close to Color for plot armor, or staying away to not get killed/hurt for his story's benefit.

Image 1: black kites use and start forest fires to flush out prey. nightmare is a natural disaster that makes things easier to hunt for fresh.
Image 2: nightgmare is referring to fresh as a Cattle egret, specifically. nightmare is the cow startling bugs and grasshoppers out of hiding for Fresh to snatch up.
Image 3: fresh is saying Nightmare is not an uncaring force that helps fresh by chance, but a honey guide, something that is Specifically guiding and leading fresh to food so that it may eat itself.
How would the others actually react to Fresh's true form? Like CB or Color. Or, How many have actually have seen Fresh outside of his Host (besides his next victim) ?

Actually drew up a comic about CB stumbling upon Fresh while he was out of a host years ago. I can't find the original art so here is a redraw :-]
CB's favorite animal are octopus, so he'd be rather exited to see him, even if he doesn't know its Fresh. Talks for hours after it gets away and Fresh mysteriously returns about how cool it was to have a little octopus buddy haha.

These all have their own individual tags [what I put at the top there], but I might collapse [Captivity AU: Nightmare's Castle] and [Captivity AU: Nightmare's Castle; good end] cus I thought I'd have more thoughts on Nightmare keeping Fresh as a pet, but welll. it is just boring if Fresh has no power to be annoying back haha.
And Captivity AU is still its own thing separate from all this too. Because I like Fizz's terrible situationship with the experiment and I still have the idea of Fresh escaping to go be happy with CB's family. So that means.. the other two [or one] are just offshoots of this one :-]
The concept I've been throwing around for how Fresh wouldn't starve while with Color + also making it so Color wouldn't have to compromise his morals to feed Fresh is just that Fresh can get most of his daily magic by hanging around Color, who dispels so much magicical soul stuff that Fresh could just... persist. but that feels too hand-wavy and self-indulgent haha.
I think Fresh acts a bit silly to make people lower their guard haha

With color... I do think Fresh would play it up a bit. He's just a sad little parasite that doesn't Knowww monster didn't like being eaten, see. just a puppy dog. just a little guyyyy. try and appeal to Color's kindness and generosity.
