ya nuo groans as they sit up. they have to remind themselves that they’re not supposed to be able to see. lightning to the face last summer, && all. they inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale for a few good seconds, trying to place the unfamiliar voice. something about the voice sounds… WRONG, but ya nuo can’t quite tell.
where… where are they? THAT’S THE NEXT QUESTION that runs through their head; this isn’t their apartment complex, at least, they don’t think–they don’t hear any of the hustle&& bustle from the outside, where there would normally be some sort of background noise. but ya nuo suddenly feels pain–&& THAT TAKES UP THEIR ATTENTION.
they fall backwards once more, a hand curling up to hold the back of their head–where they feel something like bandages over it, which only heightens their fear–before they panic fully. ya nuo forces their body to stand up, then they pat themself down.
“ n–nǐ shì shéi? ” they ask first in mandarin, a bit too dazed for english. but then it occurs to ya nuo that they may need to repeat themself, in english this time:
“ WHO ARE YOU? ”
The operative had been watching this... Woman? Slight frame, short stature, feminine voice—most likely female, but he could be wrong. He had been watching this person for a good few hours now. The creatures he had been dispatched to this particular universe to observe and potentially exterminate seemed drawn to them.
At first he had been merely content to observe, but then one of the creatures got too close, and the operative was forced to act—which lead to this current situation. It took a few seconds for his mask to translate what had been said into something to could understand, and the operative frowned at the repeated question.
“Who I am is of little importance,” he said calmly, walking over to the cot where his newest acquaintance was sitting. “But right now, I find who you are to be very important indeed. Are you aware that there are monsters following you through the streets?”
No sense beating around the bush.
