Birthday Season//Drabble//
It was getting to be that time of year again: Birthday Season--so named because Sora, Riku and Kairi all seemed to have their birthdays around the same time. Usually, Sora loved Birthday Season because it was like a mini Christmas: time to give and receive gifts.
Well, this year was probably going to be a bit more of a damper than others before it. Even if this wasn't the first year where they were scattered for Birthday Season--those two years without Riku had been hard on everyone--this was the first year that none of them had any home for it.
None of them would get to go to the Secret Place and add a new drawing to the wall in celebration. No one would be there to wish Kairi a happy birthday and wake her up with semi-burnt pancakes and clumsily wrapped presents. They wouldn't spend the whole day together, doing whatever the birthday person so chose.
There was just something wrong about not being able to celebrate Birthday Season. Just like not being able to celebrate Christmas--though Sora was pretty sure that holiday would be kiboshed as well.
He would find something nice to do for both Kairi and Riku this year though. This was the first year he finally knew where they both were, more or less, since their journeys began.
Riku was a bit easier to get presents for--a pie and a pair of new ballet slippers since hers were looking a bit worn, the new ones a bit fancier and having the ribbons that wound up the leg--but Kairi, it would be hard. It was always hard picking a gift for Kairi. Maybe it was because he had known Riku longer there were hardly any secrets between them. Even when it had been just Sora and Kairi, he still couldn't quite figure her out. She was a mystery for sure.
He wondered if she still liked crafting. She probably did but there wasn't much time for it now, thanks to him. Either way, he could get her some crafting supplies and...
A lightbulb went off in his head.
It took him a few weeks to get it right but he was able to finally make the two charms after who knows how many attempts. He placed the new Thalassa shell charm--this one using a different color shells so she didn't think that he was giving the charm back to her just yet--next to the new keychain for her keyblade in the box and carefully wrapped it. It still looked as terrible as his presents usually did, but it was the thought that counted, right?
He would have to find a way to stealthily deliver it to her at some point. After all, who would want to miss Birthday Season?
