For the first time in five years, Psi was free.
The sliding doors at the entrance to Dantena Penitentiary slammed shut behind the hacker, and he headed out onto the street. He was dressed in the clothes he’d been arrested in, so long ago-- the wardens had handed them back to him on his release-- and they were pretty much all he had to his name.
Having deleted his friends, his family, anyone who might be connected to him... there was nothing to look forward to besides his freedom. He had no money, nowhere to go home to, no-one to ask for help... he realised he didn’t even know where he was going to sleep tonight.
The elation he’d felt at his prison sentence ending had all but dissipated by the time he was two streets away from the prison building, replaced by a hollow sort of feeling in the pit of his ribcage. Psi sank onto a nearby bench, scrubbing the heels of his hands against closed eyes.
He was well and truly on his own.
