Do It To Me - This Century
screams
i love that song
I think the point of both Thalia and Jason were to set off Percy's traits. Thalia was intentionally made similar to him but with more aggression. I think that was Rick showing us that year, these traits that Percy hast, could be dressed in different clothes. The point of Jason was to be a direct opposite of Percy. Percy's a greek demigod son of Poseidon who breaks the rules? Alright, Jason will be a roman demigod son of Jupiter who follows order. I mean even their hair color are opposites.
I agree. And I love how you worded that, "dressed in different clothes". That was perfect haha
Percy and Jason are pretty much polar opposties in every way, excluding the basic leadership qualities they possess. I think, like you do, that Rick did this on purpose to show a different kind of leader who isn't aggressive like Thalia and reckless like Percy but still has the ability to be a strong influence over a group of people. The Romans in general seem to have a more serious and cool attitude then the Greeks do and Jason represents this, especially through his different leadership style.
Round Four: Compare Percy to Thalia and the to Jason.
Alright, this is just my opinion, but I personally do not think Percy is that much like Thalia, nor Jason.
Percy and Thalia...I think out of the two Percy is the most like Thalia. Both are stubborn, both like to have the lead, and neither are soft spoken about it, which causes major problems. Being children of the Big 3, they are revered and have high expectations set up by others. They are angry, and often get angry at their godly parents, but Thalia is...very hostile about it. She comes across as a bully sometimes, taking that anger out on others. Percy generally just makes sarcastic remarks that are sometimes funny and sometimes leave you thinking "ouch", especially when they're directed at himself.
Thalia is also power hungry, something Percy is not. She's very confident in herself and wants to have it all. Percy...well, he isn't as sure of himself. Generally he does the things that he does because its helping someone else, not because it'll benefit him or give him more power or authority.
As for Jason, its hard for me to compare them because we still don't know that much about Jason, but from what we do know, I don't think he's a ton like Percy. Jason is quiet and patient (oh thats another quality Thalia and Percy share, they're impatient, which makes them reckless and impulsive). I wouldn't say he's cocky, not at all, but he seems to have more real confidence in himself then Percy does. Not that Percy is insecure exactly, he just often fakes his confidence for the sake of others. And himself, because vulnerability frightens him and (as I said before) Percy fears fright.
Jason and Percy are both leaders however. They both care about others and inspire confidence and strength. They both like to take charge which, again, causes problems. I don't believe Jason is as stubborn as Percy is though. Percy and Jason have their clueless moments, but Percy more then Jason.
Jason is more serious and focused on his duties then Percy is.
All three, Jason, Thalia, and Percy, are incredibly powerful and match each other in that power.
I could go on, but I think there are more differences between Percy and Thalia and Jason, then there are similarities.
Round Three: Compare Percy Jackson to Katniss Everdeen.
Umm. They're both heroes, both courageous, both fiercely loving and protective of their family, both willing to die for a higher cause. They face experiences that most people would go insane from.
They are sad. They are lonely, but most leaders are.
They are angry, but where Katniss shows this through hostility and a stony attitude, Percy shows this through his bitter remarks and thoughts.
They're both a little unsure about the idea of love and choose to focus more on the mission, not their personal problems.
They both win in the end.
Round Two: Percy looses Beckendorf and is quite obviously distressed. How do you think Beckendorf had influenced Percy's life before and after he died and what effect did Beckendorf have on the Titan War (in your opinion)?
We don't see a lot of Percy-Beckandorf interaction in the books, but it seems like Percy viewed Beckandorf as an older brother figure, someone to go to for advice and to generally just look up to.
When he died, Percy's fear of losing people he cares about resurfaced and it really hit home that he just lost a good friend. Not only that though, but I think his death was the moment Percy realized that people were dying for him, so that Percy could live and be the hero of the prophecy. And this shook him up, because Percy doesn't want people to be dying for his sake. He would rather die for their sake.
So I think this moment, Beckandorf's death, shifted Percy's viewpoint about the Titan War, and I guess now beyond that since Percy continually worries about losing people and people dying for him in Mark of Athena.
