I had a few OCs in high school that I abandoned for a lot of reasons and I spent a lot of time thinking that I just didn’t have original ideas and I couldn’t come up with OCs, let alone OCs that I could make people care about.
I actually got back into doing original stuff through Homestuck RP! It was totally different than any RPing I’d done before and I could really freeform an OC out of canon and AU elements until I really had something (someone?) I was really proud of. My friends were SUPER, SUPER, SUPER supportive and I think that helped a lot.
Demonology started as half self-indulgent pornography and half “lololol satan.” But once I was like “alright if one of these characters is LITERALLY SATAN and the other is a demon who has lived for centuries on earth, then they have stories and there is a HELL and there’s way more going on here than just porn.”

Hikmah came out of an idea that I had in which the demon gets banished back to Hell and has to make a treacherous journey back to Lucifer, who is sitting in his big fortress tower throwing a tantrum because he misses his boyfriend and hates his job. The demon needed other demons to explain this world he doesn’t know and doesn’t understand. He needed someone who could help him and be his friend!! And that’s Hikmah!
And a lot of Hikmah’s development was totally happenstance. I wanted a character with black feathers, then I looked at birds and realized that the design I wanted to give Hikmah was probably more of a female bird design. Hikmah was not a female character, tho, so it ended up being that Hikmah lived as a hermit to escape the very strict sex-based roles of his society/community. This outsider — the demon — comes along and, not knowing anything about that society, accepts Hikmah as whatever Hikmah says he is. For Hikmah, that’s very special, and he can also learn from the demon and teach him what he knows.
Hikmah ends up living in Hell’s capital and he and the demon remain close friends. He and one of the angels in Lucifer’s counsel hook up because a) Lucifer and the demon’s relationship needs some contrast b) IT’S CUTE. c) I LOVE SHIPPING, WHY NOT SHIP MY OCS?
The point of this VERY LONG REPLY is that you can always make OCs. It is always within you, even when it feels like it isn’t. If you have something you are inspired by and the support of friends, you can have OCs. Even if it starts with dumb stuff like Homestuck or porn!!

YES, THE PRESSURE, even if you are now in a "safe zone" there is always the feeling of "hey, what if someone that I know (irl friends/ family) can found this"so, that's probably I just keep the things privately, or talk in a place that is not tumblr
I am not really worried about people I know irl finding my blogs... People irl already know I’m a fucking dweeb.

YEAH I can feel like I have a little more control. Even if I don’t talk about my OTP, I can just have more public discussions about stuff that I don’t want people to see — not because the discussions are BAD or anything, just that it’s silly and I wouldn’t want the people I’m talking about or their family or friends to see what I’m saying.
