FROM WHAT HE’S GATHERED OF ENZI THUS FAR, the man is far from brainless. not at all like the ghouls of which alucard had grown accustomed; little more than vessels and without a thought beyond devouring — to spread their plague for as long and as much as they are able. he is something else, entirely.

of course, that also means that he is more than capable of discerning these things himself. alucard, after all, is not some pompous twat; he doesn’t speak in riddles or deign to pretend he’s wise. there is, however, a joke in there somewhere. something about ghouls and an unspecified amount of brains. fortunately for both of them, he’s also not nearly so dimwitted as to attempt to make it. ❝  correct me if i’m wrong,  ❞ not much of an invitation, honestly, ❝  but that sounds like your problem.  ❞

it’s  in  the  dark  of  the  night ,       in  the  shadow  of  a  narrow  path  between  two  houses  where  he  comes  across  the  ghoulish  figure  cornering  a  shivering  man .       [   WHAT  HAD  HE  DONE  TO  DESERVE  AN  UNTIMELY  DEATH  ?   OR  IS  IT  JUST  THE  HUNGER ?   ]       hunger  follows  them  all ,       consumes  them  at  times .       he  knows  it’s  hard  especially  for  the  other’s  kind .       for  his  own  as  well .       but  a  hundred  years  of  dealing  with  it  have  taught  him  to  control  it .       someone  might  walk  by ,       he’d  warned  the  man .       the  darkness  might  not  always  shield  them  from  all  human  eyes .       there  are  rules  even  in  their  world .       some  try  to  adhere  to  them  more  than  others .       and  within  the  circles  that  he's  bound  to  they  are  written  in  stone .       however ,       what  the  ghoul  does  is  none  of  wick’s  business .

he’s  long  stopped  pitying  the  look  within  a  dying  man’s  eyes ,       so  he  does  not  turn  his  head  away ,       straight  form  remaining  still  as  stone .       unless  the  other  wants  his  privacy . . .       and  so ,       after  a  moment  of  hesitation :          ‘     i’ll  leave  you  to  it ,       then .     ’
