I planted these late this year, and they are just now blooming. Female begonia bloom. Dad often had begonias planted in boxes that hung on the side of the house.

I planted these late this year, and they are just now blooming. Female begonia bloom. Dad often had begonias planted in boxes that hung on the side of the house.
Stink bug nymphs, aka leaf hoppers, have turned green. Next spring they will be much larger and look like a shield in shape. These little guys have no idea there is a white crab spider waiting on the next leaf. They are on my honeysuckle vine.
The daliahs will keep kicking out blooms a few more weeks as the nights get colder.
The lavender is pushing its last blooms out as the season shifts from a hot, dry summer to cool, soft fall.
I FINALLY put the garden to bed yesterday and while I was out there, I took the opportunity to check on my 8 eastern black swallowtail chrysalides that I raised from caterpillars this fall. Unlike monarchs, swallowtails are not migratory. They are the sassy badasses of the butterfly world and spend all winter in their chrysalis surviving the worst snow storms and cold snaps. Nature is truly incredible. 🌨🐛 These eight will emerge as butterflies in the spring where they will be released to pollinate plants and reproduce! OH HEY I have a #plantstagram now!
