Ohh what a nice idea for a Monday morning 🥰
Long walks outside (either in nature or exploring a city)
A really, really good book
The peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s
Seeing my family dog when I visit home
Puttering around my apartment
...
One serious issue being an adult child of hoarders is
It is very hard for me to maintain a clean space. I grew up never putting anything back where it belonged. And this goes for food items that need refrigeration as well. So every time I have to put stuff back, it is always a conscious effort. Every single time. Putting my coat up, putting my shoes where they belong, putting things away. Sorting through mail, putting dirty plates in dishwasher. The list is endless. And I am NOT lazy. It just is mentally exhausting. Like it's my voice in my head telling me to put shit away. Not any authoritative figure. I don't always listen to myself. Or I think why pick that up now? Why not wait for a bunch to pile up? Or should I hang my coat when I may go somewhere in a few hours?
It is very hard to do this and harder still to make it natural.
Putting away photos, old drawings, a few gifts, plane/train tickets, movie stubs, playbills, a few cards, the journal that holds record of our entire relationship, and the first piece of jewelry he ever got me.
I'm glad I waited to do this; I feel stronger now. One day down the road, these things will be able to bring me back and remember all the wonderful times we had.
I'm ready to start moving on.
