“.... petting the- but Rubix is right here...” Blue’s voice is quiet, and tired, and drained, his eyesockets fuzzy and fogged as he squints at Chief. his- can he call him a friend? He only really lets him come over to.. to be somewhere safe, right? Because the only other ‘safe’ place is in far closer proximity to Red than anyone but Gadget wants to be...

His mind is wandering. It’s been doing that recently... Right, the cat. A sharp ‘mrrrp-!’ and fuzzy cloudy floof against his bare arm suggests the cat is, in fact, over here. So what’s Chief petting?

“....Oh...” It comes to him after a couple of seconds. Rubix walks with him as he wanders over and hops up onto the couch, movements slower and more lethargic than usual.

“.... you.... you got a kitten?”

Expectations for the fic title thing

After a harrowing birth, Gadget is unconscious in the bed next to him, his baby is sleeping in his arms and Red spends a sleepless night re-evaluating how he sees the world and lowkey freaking out about what it means to be a dad.

"RUBY? WHERE ARE YOU?" Sapphire calls out as he follows the sound of Ruby's yelling to find his other half, eager to see him after being so abruptly torn away from him and their home.

“Sapphire-!” his head whips in the direction of the shout and he sets off at a run towards his partner, dashing through rooms, the ground smoldering under his feet where they touch. He’s not going to be safe or calm until he’s with his Sapphire.

Luckily for Coby Widget had been nearby and jumps when he hears the creaking, eyes widening in panic when he starts gasping before he calls for Giz, the other skeleton skidding into the room when he hears Widget's tone. "holy shit Coby? what happened?" He shakes his head obviously Coby can't really answer like this, he needs water! He gestures for Widget to help him and they quickly carry him to the bathroom and place him in the bath, filling it up, it's not much but it'll do for now.

Coby flops and gasps hard in the other skeletons’ arms, scrabbling at them with fingers lengthened into more bony struts than traditional fingers, better for finny hands but no membrane stretches between them. Long struts of bone peel off from his forearms too, the struts for fins but with no flesh or skin they just stay that way.

As soon as he feels the water he calms, thrusting his head back to try and submerge his face, still gasping hoarsely until the liquid covers his head entirely.

Gizmo is quick to answer to Dusty's chittering, coming to his side and chittering back to let him know he's there before gently pulling him into a hug.

Dusty clings to Gizmo, nuzzling into the hug and burying his face in his chest, inhaling his calming scent. 

.”...... sorry........” he murmurs hoarsely, shaking in his arms. “......somethin’ touched me..... made me.... jump”

Gadget settles onto the sofa with a bright and happy giggle before he continues his gentle petting of his tiny boyfriend, he's so cute!

He yawns again, his jaws snapping closed with a small click,  and nuzzles into the gentle pets, shuffling his wings a little again. Mmmm, that’s so relaxing~

With another quiet ‘mrrp’ he rolls over, displaying his soft unfurred underbelly for pets. Despite his bizarre, tiny form and the dysphoria and unease that brings, he’s completely at ease with Gadget near him.

It was only matter of time before Gadget couldn't help himself. He comes over to Red and gently runs a finger down his back in a soft pet with stars in his eyes and tail wagging.

Red had been snoozing, curled up on the arm of the couch in full view so Gadget knows where he is.

At the touch, the tiny chimera twitches and gives a very small ‘mrrp-!’, quickly lifting his head and blinking large eyes at the offending finger. His mirrored pupils flicker briefly from bright pink to yellow and settle at green when he realises it’s Gadget.

He looks up at his boyfriend, giving a very tiny yawn, and stretches out under his finger, his tail waving, wings shifting a little and a crackly purr enamating from him. Yes, he may continue to pet. This is good.
