this is still probably my favourite exchange in this series
found this guy while i was grinding
named him accordingly
I’m gonna give the RAM corruption thing a rest indefinitely because it’s gotten to the point where it’s difficult to actually play the game, between my Pokemon disappearing into the floor:
parts of the UI sliding off the screen or disappearing altogether, making battles a chore:
gyms being nigh impossible when the camera won’t cooperate:
and of course, running the risk of potentially every exit door leading directly to hell.
Also I’m grossly underlevelled from trying to rush through the game to get screenshots, so I’m gonna be playing at least semi-normally from now on.
Blowing through Team Flare, but thought i’d include these highlights.
You sure do, buddy.
And a bonus:
Mm. Don’t like that.
nurse joy getting existential on me
Hey how did you play a 3ds game without a 3ds
If you were interested in 3DS emulation it’s worth checking out Citra, though it’s still in development and is somewhat limited in what it can do IIRC.
However, everything in those screenshots was done on an actual physical 3DS cartridge.
To that end, I’ve got custom firmware installed on this thing that lets me dump the RAM to get at the save file, among other things. It’s entirely possible to do this yourself, though I should warn you I modded mine back when everyone was using A9LH on 11.1-11.3 firmware, when it was free to do. The method has since changed to where you can use B9S because it’s much safer to install with the advent of seed mining on 11.9 (back in my day we had to downgrade to 2.1 and risked bricking our consoles and we were GRATEFUL), but if you have to use NTRboot you’ll have to buy a flashcart to get it to work, which can be about twenty bucks or so.
Did you ever finish the pajama run???
Nah, it’s still in progress. It’s been on hold because Tumblr hates bitmaps and getting the screenshots into posts is a huge hassle, because the RAM corruption tool doesn’t always play nice with the UI and that makes the game really hard to play sometimes, and also I’ve been trying to catch up on the fact that I’ve been ignoring Gen 5 in my True 100% Run. It will be completed, since the Pyjama Run is just an extension of the True 100% Run anyway, it’s just been slow going while I try to figure out how the fuck I can document the damn thing in a timely manner without spending like four hours converting and reconverting bmps to pngs until Tumblr decides to actually post them.
Curiosity question: what compelled you to do a pyjama run?
Okay so I play Pokemon a lot. Like, a whole lot. I don’t even think it’s a stretch to say I’ve played more Pokemon than pretty much anyone. I’ve been doing a “True 100%” run of Pokemon since I was eight, where I resolved to raise every single Pokemon I ever caught. And since I always fill out the national dex, that means raising every single Pokemon species to level 100 by hand. (Current progress is 647/807 and I really hope to finish Gen 5 entirely by the time the new games come out. Is it selfish to hope they’re delayed a bit?)
To make things more practical, I’ll actually splice saves together so I’m not forced to just grind, and I’ll play through the story multiple times. Sometimes this gets really boring, so I’ll come up with various challenges on the way. In X and Y, part of that entails coming up with a new aesthetic for every playthrough. Except I couldn’t come up with one, and the last one I did, pastel goth, was really really expensive. So I figured, “Wait I’m wearing a unique outfit right now. Why don’t I just keep it on?”
From there, various little things like animations and cutscenes and the full render models started breaking, so I decided to figure out what I could break intentionally.
