Right, I knew that. I just figured it was an ‘AU’ thing so some things were changed. I guess I didn’t realize Waverly has never introduce herself as an Earp or a Gibson. Like when she first met Nicole, Nicole said her introduction for her.

I was so on board with this until you said what David did wasn't rape. It was rape. He altered her mind, even if it was just taking out the bad, making her forget how she had felt about him when she tried to shoot him. It wasn't consensual because she was in no way able to consent because not all of her knowledge and feelings were intact. If he had tried that without wiping her mind, she would have rejected him and no one can deny that. 

Well, she would have tried to kill him again, not had sex with him! But she wasn’t in her right mind when she “made” the decision to break up with him and kill him either. Syd didn’t have much agency in the last two episodes because she was caught between two powerful telepaths. I argue that David undid Farouk’s violation of Syd’s mind, restoring her (mostly) to how she was before she was pulled down the rabbit hole. If pre-rabbit Syd was able consent to sex with David, then post-Desolé Syd also was able to consent to sex with David.

Again, I really hate having to argue about whether it was rape or not. Fuck Hawley for using that plot point in the first place! I’m not trying to defend his writing choices, just understand them as best I can. We may have to just agree to disagree. 

With THAT said. Did he do it with the intention OF raping her? No. It was a case of his emotions controlling him and when his emotions overtake the logic, he does... not great things. Which is why I think Syd was able to still be calm in the "trial" scene, why she still wanted to help him. She acknowledges that he wasn't and isn't in a good place mentally and especially emotionally, but he needed to know what he'd done.

Agreed. It was absolutely not David’s intent! 

Syd is clear-eyed during the intervention, seeing that David really does need help, not punishment. She still loves him, I think, despite it all. If anyone understands how it is to make a terrible mistake and live with the consequences it’s Syd. Like Amy, she loves David enough to know when she needs to let him go because she can’t help him the way he needs to be helped. 

Additionally: I agree with everything else though, it checks out, IMO.

up until this point in the show, while david is definitely a lot more powerful now he has yet to actually become legion (as far as i can tell). do you think what happened last night will push him to that point or is that still yet to come and might be what happens at the end of the season?

An interesting question. I find myself thinking about the full extent of Legion’s powers every single episode , but you’re right - from the looks of it , there’s still a lot that David has to learn on this path of ye-high-powerful-mutant before he begins to fully understand what he’s capable of. In the same realm, ( and on a slight tangent while I have this in my mind, sorry ), David said he “did a thing” in Ptonomy’s head when he rescued him from his maze. Although I highly doubt that David had anything to do with the issues Ptonomy experiences in Chapter 13, I think we shouldn’t rule that out. Do I think David did anything bad? No. Do I think he might have done something that could inadvertently make things a lot more difficult for himself and everyone else? That’s possible. ( I have my thoughts about what Ptonomy saw when he was trying to go through Lenny’s mind, too, but that’s for a different day . )

At the pace the show is going, I don’t think David will gain “full” control of his powers by the end of this season. His learning process is slow, and that really doesn’t help with all the problems that are popping up left and right. But yeah - that super eerie ending isn’t helping anything at all, with David promising that he’s “coming for [Farouk]” EEYIKES . Because if I were David, I’d want to bash Farouk’s brains in for doing that to my sister too. Hands down. Legion is already really difficult to predict, so… who knows. He sure looks like he’s thinking bloody murder, which is fair.

Is he pushed to that point already? Maybe. But maybe he’s going to heed what Future Syd said and try to avoid it. Episode 14 seems to be delving into “what could have been…” aka the other possible universes and scenarios that could have played out for David, so maybe he’ll be looking for a way to get Amy back. Like Ptonomy said: there is the past, and there’s the future. The past has already happened. Is it mutable? If you’re Future Syd, you might say “yes” ( which makes this even more complicated, so I’m not getting into that ). Assuming the past isn’t able to be changed, then maybe David’s back on track looking for a future that won’t make him evil. From what Future Syd told him ( “You’re like you were before: sweet.” ), David’s definitely changed in her timeline into something very… not sweet. What that is: your guess is as good as mine.

THAT WAS LIKE THE BIGGEST UNDERSTATEMENT I’VE EVER MADE. Tom is like head over heels in love and I am convinced the dinner date actually ended with him standing outside Davey’s house blasting Peter Gabriel.

Tony’s got the “we took him on a date” speech down to a science when people ask how this came about and it’s like if he says it enough maybe he’ll get a second date.

Adrian’s just the friend who’s super casual about it but is totally down if you ask.

I know she wasn't fucking around, but Syd's also not a hypocrite. We're definitely going to have to agree to disagree on this one, lol.

Is hypocrisy the issue, though? She’s afraid of David as a world-killer, not as a murderer in self-defense. In this moment, she believes that if she doesn’t stop David, he’s going to end the world. That her future self set all of this in motion so she could avert a global disaster. They only have a few minutes before all their powers come back. Just as David was ready to finish crushing Farouk’s skull, Syd was ready to do what was necessary.
