Farm life
Two brothers lost at Pozieres. 3779 Private John Rolston Beattie (left) and 3778 Private Arnold Locke Beattie (right), 20th Australian Infantry Battalion. John was killed in action at Pozieres on 3 August 1916, aged 23 years and has no known grave. Arnold Beattie died five days later on 8 August 1916 from wounds received at Pozieres aged 21. Both were educated, along with members of my family, at Pyree Public School where their father John was the school teacher. John and his wife Frances would name their home in Kogarah 'Rol-Arno' in memory of the boys.
