'Here There' Qatar Brazil exhibition - Here
Celebrating the conclusion of yet another successful cultural year, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums opened the “Here There” exhibition.
The exhibition is a very exciting experience that explores two cultures. Since we have been quite busy we were late and could only attend the Qatari side, "Here". We were not disappointed.
We will explore some of our favorites. and we say SOME because we loved all.
Aisha Al Suwaidi
We must say we were super excited to start the exhibition with Aisha’s work since we are fans! We have already attended one exhibition of hers in Katara Art Center. Aisha is an expert when it comes to playing with memories, whether with visuals or smells. On the two examples above Aisha explores growing up in a period when many parts of Qatar were under construction. The teddy bears are filled with cement and the small grey bricks make up the iconic Sheraton hotel.
Mubarak Al-Malik
Capturing traditions with colors, Mubarak Al-Malik's work is captivating. In the above painting, Mubarak captures the Jilwa night, a night where the bride is celebrated before her wedding.
Khalifa Al Obaidly
Khalifa’s installation explores life through the immigrant laborer's point of view via sound and image: as you walk into the room you can hear the noises of a constriction site while seeing the visual. Khailfa does not need any introduction since he’s one of the brightest names in the art scene in Doha. He is also the curator for this exhibition.
Nouf Al-Suwaidi
The intriguing installation by the young artist creates another dimension to view Qatar’s past and present. Two opposite walls reflect Qatar's quiet past and its noisy present. The mirror in-between is a reflection item.
Sara Al Obaidly
There is something about Sara’s portraits, you just cannot stop staring. it is safe to say that Sara managed to capture some of the souls of the individuals in those pictures. They are simply enchanting.
Here are some more photos:
In the end, we would like to say that we HIGHLY recommend visiting the “Here There” exhibition. The work is unique, sophisticated and inspiring.
