whats an áo dài? whats the difference between áo dài and qipao??
uhh based on what i know!
🇻🇳 áo dài: vietnamese ensemble consisting of tunic+pants 👚👖 (sometimes skirts in modern styles!)
🇨🇳 qipao/cheongsam: chinese style one piece dress (🚫👖 NO pants/skirt worn underneath!)
áo dài have open slits on the right/left sides that start high at the waist! ⬆️
if a qipao has open slit(s), they are lower than the waist! ⬇️ i've seen many that have a single slit that goes with the asymmetrical design that starts at the collar!
áo means shirt/clothes and dài means long but i've been seeing shorter áo dài! sometimes worn with skirts instead of the flowy pants!
i've seen modern qipao that are very figure fitting, some that are a-line, long ones, short ones- imo its very defined by its neckline!
i often see qipao edged with piping at the collar but its cool to see on áo dài! big fan!
see how on this qipao there are also open slits on the right/left sides but they start a bit below the hips and not at the waist??
?? they look the same? wait! the blue has pants! and its open slits are at the waist! the red has no pants! ohh!
versions and styles vary for different genders and ages and occasions but its all still called áo dài!
qipao is feminine and changshan is masculine i guess!
i like wearing áo dài but i have some qipao too! my parents are both vietnamese but my dad is maybe apparently a quarter chinese? we don't keep track of these things very good!
thats it! bye! 👋
Happy Chinese New Year from Kitty Katswell! Last year, I drew Jenny wearing a red cheongsam for the year of the rabbit (Click here to view). To celebrate the year of the dragon, I drew Kitty in a red cheongsam, only, unlike Jenny's outfit, Kitty's sleeves are short, and the bottom of her dress doesn't go down to her feet.
Credit for the base of Kitty Katswell goes to DeviantArt user BerryViolet

Note: This is a top and a bottom. And you can't change the shoes, the heels in the picture came with the pants! Don't download it if you mind.

Lace up Qipao dress:Cheongsam
My second mesh made with Marvelous Designer.
It is way more better than my first public MDmesh CC.
The most interesting part was meshing the Chinese knot button, and the most disturbing part was adjusting the lace.
Hope you enjoy it~♥
