I don't think Dess will be a perfect victim. Asriel wasn't one in Undertale, and as Undertale's parallel story, I believe Deltarune will do the same with Dess. Her transformation into the Roaring Knight may have been involuntary, but I think there's an element of wish fulfillment for her in it as well; freedom from expectations, from mistakes, from who she used to be. But Chapter 4 told us that you can never wash it all away.

The Roaring Knight doesn't want to be Dess again, it's afraid of being Dess again, of being trapped by that perception. I think it can move on anyways. This whole game is about fighting stagnation, breaking out of the roles imposed on you. If Dess finds freedom from herself in the Prophecy, then to save her, we need to show her how to find freedom outside of it.

Suselle and the Ego

Susie and Noelle are meant to contrast each other, and this extends even to their psyches, specifically their Egos.

In Freud's model of the psyche, the Ego is the part that's conscious, the defensive and rational part that makes decisions; it mediates the raw animal desire of the Id and the environmental demands of the Superego.

Susie's Ego lets her Id run wild; she protects herself by being the biggest, loudest thing around and scaring away potential harm. Noelle's Ego represses her Id hard; she protects herself by heeding her Superego to ensure she never does anything that invites harm.

Susie is very external, her thoughts and feelings showing whether she wants them to or not.

Noelle is very internal, hiding her "weird" side from most everyone to be perceived as inoffensive.

Susie has difficulty rationalizing her actions, preferring to deflect attention away from them or leave the situation entirely. Noelle, on the other hand...

She's desperate to rationalize everything she does, repressing memories and impulses to prevent cognitive dissonance. It's a coping mechanism that works for her up until she breaks through it to confront Queen and save her friends, or in the Weird Route, until the illusion breaks.

On the both routes, Susie becomes more internal, better able to mediate her Id.

Noelle's biggest change on the normal route is being bold enough to look for Susie's tail. However, on the Weird Route...

...she's more desperate and more obviously driven by fear. She's becoming more avoidant, repressing to the point of dissociation, and she's pushing away Rudy, one of the two people who "knows how weird [she is]", the other being Kris. After losing control to Kris, does she now fear losing control to her father?

I just think the parallels between these two are so fascinating; this psychological juxtaposition is why I've never felt like Suselle is just Alphyne 2.0.

Nevertheless, I hope this was an interesting read (^︿^;)ゞ
