I’m an amateur when it comes to beer. But the Thomas Creek Brewery Driftwood Series Bull Sluice Quadruple Ale had me confused. Corked and caged like a champagne, I was expecting something robustly carbonated. I even approached the uncorking tentatively. I didn’t want to shoot the cork at my wife or the dogs. But after 10 minutes of pulling, rocking, twisting, and not a few expletives, the cork had moved a quarter of an inch. Finally, I gained entry as the cork came free. Instead of the satisfying pop of anticipation, it was more of a soft plorp. Pouring the beer into my carefully tilted glass was like pouring red wine. There was no carbonation. It was so flat that I wondered if it was supposed to be that way. It didn’t seem like it had ever been carbonated. But I soldiered on. It wasn’t an inexpensive bottle. The smell was pleasantly of prunes and figs. Drinking it, those flavors came through clearly. There was a rich layer of spices as well. It had the subtle alcoholic flavoring of bourbon barrels and at 10% was nicely warming. All in all, not bad but I’m really curious what it was supposed to be. #thomascreekbrewery #quadale #beer #beerreview https://www.instagram.com/p/CafmpqbuaBo/?utm_medium=tumblr
