For the eleven or so people out there who might actually care about this old #vintagemtb, here's an update. Finally got my $75 FB Marketplace #Trek930 out on the trail for about 90 minutes. All I did was adjust (not replace) the cables, rebuild the #rockshox #quadra5, install some old parts I had lying around (pedals, chain, saddle, tires), toss on my saddle bag, pump and rear fender. Hell I didn't even CLEAN the damn thing! Bottom line: I'm more impressed than I expected to be. It's responsive, shifts crisply, and the shock works perfectly. The GripShift wasn't as awful as I remembered but they'll be gone soon anyway as I already have a set of STX shifter/levers on the way. The grips are utter garbage (a new set of #ourygrips will go on when I replace the shifters). The Alivio brakes are an absolute ATROCITY though and the biggest let-down. I need to do something about those, but first I want to make sure the pads are clean and toed in properly (should have checked but I didn't). More on that later. Overall I couldn't be happier, for $75 and some of my time and old parts this is a very capable backup bike, until I decide it's time to part out and sell like I originally planned. Hell, it might even work out as a platform to evaluate a 1x9 drivetrain like I was thinking the other day...
