Quality Garden Designs for Winter

As Summer gradually comes to an end, (did it ever really begin?) you need to start thinking about how you can maintain your quality garden design for the Winter period.

Autumn is a beautiful season for nature. With the leaves falling off the trees they leave a picturesque setting. As the colours of plants and leaves change, an Autumn garden can sometimes look prettier than the garden in the Summer. Autumn is also a key season for wildlife, as animals prepare to hibernate and birds prepare to fly South for the Winter, you can transform your garden into a wildlife sanctuary. In order to do this you need to ensure you leave enough shelter in your gardens for wildlife. Many people choose to blitz their garden in the Autumn to make it easier when Spring time comes round again. However, this can be damaging to wildlife. You can also swap dull plants for brighter colours to try and attract more wildlife, as well as brighten up your garden.

The Autumn and Winter period can be very harsh to beautiful gardens. The wind, rain, ice and snow can have devastating effects on your plants, grass and garden furniture. However it can also be a great period to evaluate your garden. What do you like about it and what do you hate? Anything you don't like can be got rid of, whilst features which are liked can be preserved. Make a note of what you especially liked about the garden so you can try to recreate it the following Spring.   

How can you prevent weather damage to your garden? Well, it's not possible to completely prevent weather damage but there are ways in which you can assist in preventing it. Getting your garden ready for Winter can simply involve giving it a tidy up. First of all, garden furniture should all be put away or covered up to ensure it isn't damaged by the weather. Secondly, any plants which may be damaged by the weather should also be covered, or placed in a greenhouse if possible. Remove all dead leaves and dead plants, these will not revive themselves and will only make your garden look untidy. Lastly, if you are expecting snow ensure that you water your garden thoroughly before hand. This is because snow makes the ground freeze meaning plants and trees will lack in moisture, so it is best to provide them with extra moisture before this happens.

We still have a few weeks left of Summer to enjoy, but if you start planning early you can keep your quality garden design throughout the year.
