The "school system" is only set up for one type of student to "succeed". Think of how many students there are in any given school, and how many different learning styles each of those students has. Where does this leave that large percentage of students who DON'T fit into the system's "learning" parameters? As a parent of a "special needs" student, this leaves me, our family and especially our student endlessly frustrated. I cannot count the number of times over his school career that my son has said "I'm dumb" or "I'm stupid" when he's anything but, because he's being taught in ways that don't speak to his needs, that tell him he's wrong just by being who he is or that don't help his assets thrive. As difficult as homeschooling has been, I'm trying to see this as an opportunity to help my son flourish with learning styles that might better suit his needs. Oh, and the proof? Coming to terms with the fact I’m likely going to be unrecognizably “chubby” after this whole quarantine nightmare is all said & done. Great. Just great.
