@quarrytm​  gets a semi-plotted starter ! + midnight swim

         𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐄𝐋𝐒𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐒𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐏, 𝐀𝐒 𝐅𝐀𝐑 𝐀𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐖,  && 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌.   campers in their cabins, counselors the same,  && no hackett to come to ruin their fun !   it was harmless, really, so even if they did get caught laura couldn’t see how it’d be such a big deal.   her && max had talked about it earlier in the day on one of his visits to the medic cabin . . . a sneaky retreat outlined in the rules as   𝚄𝙽𝙰𝙲𝙲𝙴𝙿𝚃𝙰𝙱𝙻𝙴 !    (   laura usually stuck to the rules, remained in favor of authority figures,  but this was nothing to stress over.  besides,  any excuse to spend more time with max.  they hardly saw one another during busy hours of the day, mostly separated at night.  it was nice, like a cozy, cool, summertime date while working the quarry.  )     ;       head leans back to further wet blonde hair, a breath taken into chest until laura fully floats on her back with eyes facing toward moon hanging over head.   breath is released when going to speak,   ❝  ahhh.  this is so nice. ❞   cold lake water just the right temperature to cool off after a hot day.    ❝  no screaming or hurt kids, no counselors.  𝔧𝔲𝔰𝔱  𝔲𝔰. ❞

             braced for impact.  the moment he begins speaking she finds some part of her growing tense,  awaiting the usual antagonism she is so accustomed to receiving  (  not just from him,  but the world in general  ).  just as her fingers begin to tighten around her own mug,  she realizes the words exiting his lips are not entirely unkind.  in fact,  they aren’t really horrible at all.  there is something bewildered in her eyes as they lift towards the sheriff,  brows tethering.  he has tried all sorts of methods of running her out of this territory.  if she were a little less broken of a thing,  it would probably work.  she wonders if he realizes somehow this feels almost crueler to her than anything else ever could.  there is just enough sincerity to detect beneath his motivations,  she is quite certain he doesn’t know.  of course he doesn’t. 

whatever good she might be owed,  she will never receive...he’s wrong.  there is nothing for her.  there is no ‘more’.  

magnolia looks back down at her coffee,  very aware she can’t hold it and sign  (  not that there is much she could communicate to him  ).  and she left her notepad on the kitchen counter inside.  she thinks a moment before she dives one hand into her pocket.  it takes a bit of an awkward amount of time for her to load the right app and type with one hand.  but,  finally,  that automated voice fills the air  ❛  i know it might not make sense to you.  but being here is me getting more.  ❜

     THAT’S ONE WAY TO SAY IT! the one time you’re actually going on a writer’s retreat instead of using it as a lie to avoid your friends for a little while and the stupid rental car decides to break down in what seems to be the middle of NOWHERE. your phone gps informed you you’re in somewhere called north kill, which isn’t disconcerting at all - and you consider yourself lucky that the guy who pulled over at the sight of you hopelessly looking under the hood doesn’t seem like a TOTAL CREEP right off the bat. 

     “yeah, SOMETHING LIKE THAT.” a little laugh keeps the words from sound snappish and you run a hand through your hair and give a smile that feels a little nervous ; could anyone blame you? single woman with car troubles in the middle of nowhere is pretty much the setup to EVERY shitty slasher movie ever made, “i don’t even know what’s wrong with it - - - if it was just a tire or something i’d be fine, but ...” what WAS THAT? gotta prove you’re not some blonde bimbo who doesn’t know how to change a tire? that nagging need to prove yourself claws at the back of your throat and you smile through it and shrug a shoulder, “so i’m sort of hoping you know cars?”

        the voice makes her jump, hand flying to her heart as she turns towards the source of it.  with the full moon party in full swing back at the lodge, there shouldn’t be anyone out here, and of the people who even could be out here, this dude is not one of them.  kaitlyn eyes him suspiciously for a moment, brows furrowed.  “ one of my campers forgot her doll back at the cabins.  not that it’s any of your business. ”  she squints a little in the dark;  he’s a good distance away  (thank god), but that means he’s harder to see.  “ who are you? ”  the ‘the fuck’ in the middle of that question is silent, but most definitely implied.

             uncertainty leaves her in an immobilized state for several moments.  magnolia is rooted where she stands,  contemplating if she should make more of an effort to relieve him of this burden of responsibility.  she’s always alone.  horrors have poisoned her soul time and again with no companion to her misery.  why would now be any different?  ❛  it’s okay,  ❜  she finds herself signing slowly in an unconvincing manner given the weariness written across her freckled features.  it isn’t okay.  she has become something even more broken and horrific than she already was.  all the effort he put into trying to entice her to leave.  all of his exasperation and warnings.  his fears...she feels beyond foolish for letting this happen.  but it’s what she does.  she seems destined to walk herself into the most wretched fates.  

the truth is,  she wants him here.  she doesn’t want to be alone right now.  but she’s not sure she deserves his company.  she knows her track record.  she knows what happens when anyone shows any kind of care towards her.  magnolia reaches for her notepad again,  wanting to ensure nothing gets lost in translation.   ❛   this is my fault.  you shouldn’t have to feel like you need to do anything for me.  i’m sure there are more important things requiring your attention.  ❜  a pause before she adds  ❛  besides it’s a bad couch,  it might hurt your back.  ❜
