“Alright little man.” Otomi told her three-year-old son, kneeling down so she was at his level and setting her coffee down on the floor next to her so she could give him her full attention. “Now, what are you going to work on today?”
“I’m gonna--...” He glanced around before reaching forward so he could hug his mom, scared of the part where she leaves. “Um... I don’t know.”
Otomi just laughed, patting the top of his head. She was used to this, he’d always been pretty bad when it came to them being apart. “You’re going to have lots of fun playing with all of your friends, remember to share your toys with everyone, and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ to your teacher. Can you do that for me Kei?” The boy only nodded before Otomi reached back to unlatch his arms from around her neck. “Don’t worry, I’ll be right back after work to pick you up and then we can go home, okay?” Again, he just nodded. “Alrighty then, how about we go inside so you can start your fun day!” Otomi grabbed her coffee before she stood, reaching her hand down to hold his as he reached his up so they could walk in together.
“Good morning.” Otomi smiled at the daycare worker, who offered her a smile back. Kei slowly let go of her hand, finding interest in all the kids that were already here and feeling much more comfortable after his mother assured him that she would be back. He ran off to join everyone and Otomi watched him go. "I’ll be back to pick him up at the same time as usual.” She told them and turned to leave. Unfortunately, today fate had other plans for Otomi. She didn’t even see it coming until it was too late. A little girl ran full speed into the daycare, making a bee-line for the rest of the kids. Thankfully, Otomi missed her, but as she tried to stop from hitting her as quickly as she could, she lost her footing, sending both her and the coffee in her hands hurdling towards the unfortunate man that had just been walking through the door.
“AAHHH!” Hopefully he wasn’t attached to the shirt he was wearing, because it was about to be a nice new shade of brown.
