Why do they keep trying to get me to like Mrs. Averill?? She’s been nothing but a turd in every film and they tried to say Queen Ming was WORSE than Mrs. Averill?
Mrs. Averill spent the entirety of the last film trying to force Amber to focus on nothing but wedding planning and shut down Amber’s blog, all without consulting Richard on it at all because she was “following orders” or some shit and Amber wasn’t following rules and the Queen should only be focused on dresses and wedding decorations and shit.
Queen Ming on the other hand knows how to KNIT CLOTHES (not a skill most royals know I’d assume) and spent “many years” volunteering in a maternity ward helping delivery babies. She also spends most of the film desperately trying to get back to her kids who she clearly loves and is very involved in raising, also not something that seems super common for royalty. She apparently did once know how to ice skate and is a champion archer. She is apparently beloved by her people, despite her “not taking credit” for what she does.
The ONE thing she does that appears to be strict and traditional is refusing to sign the treaty alongside her husband, thereby keeping Amber from doing the same.
But for the majority of the film, Queen Ming is super polite and respectful and kind. Unlike Mrs. Averill, she doesn’t condemn Amber for her few faux pas, she just sort-of moves past them. And even when Amber brings up them signing the treaty, she doesn’t just shut her down.
Queen Ming was a fucking DELIGHT and comparing her to Mrs. Averill was an insult to her character.
I NEED A MOVIE ABOUT KING TAI AND QUEEN MING OF PENGLIA IMMEDIATELY
WHERE is the Netflix trilogy focused on Queen Ming and King Tai?? I will take anything. It should be a prequel series focused on how they got together but I will take anything. They deserve it.
