do you think Hardison’s nana calls him about random computer stuff like every other grandparent ever? I bet she does. I bet Alec has a great easy to use set up for her too. Like imagine that, middle of a stake out, Hardison in the back of the van patiently talking Nana through how to get her email back since she accidentally deleted the internet explorer icon or something.

I am Chinese, and while you are not wrong that the Fire Nation draws from Japan in terms of politics, namely the Meiji Restoration and Imperial Japan, and Ba Sing Se is basically Qing Dynasty China, the aesthetics of the Fire Nation, especially in terms of the clothing and architecture, are mostly based on Chinese and Thai, not Japanese, clothing and architecture - so yeah, unfortunately, the show does do Japanchina, especially with the Fire Nation.

One of the things I really like about To Shape A Dragon's Breath is the lack of secondhand embarrassment.

Because at some point, possibly unjustly, I started expecting the awkwardness of not knowing things to feel awkward or embarrassing in any story that was a variant of "stranger in a strange place "

And there's none of that because Anequs is just, so self assured and refuses to be embarrassed for not knowing things she has no reason to know. I love it. She's confident, willing to explain things, and entirely unwilling to take shit.

I didnt realize I was expecting that till I read this and it wasn't there, and again maybe its an unfair expectation cause I'm not certain when I picked it up. But I love the confidence.

And I love the lack of romantic conflict, because I'm so used to that in stories. I kept expecting Theod to take things worse because I'm so used to characters reacting badly to say "I'm challenging how you grew up", I definitely didn't expect him to react well to Anequs wanting to court both him and Liberty and its just.

There's conflict in media I've grown used to seeing and the fact that it wasn't here was just. Really really good to read. All the conflict is from the outside. Right there, in the main group, you have characters that will talk things out. I love it.

it’s really important to me that once eliot is in a long-term committed relationship with two goobers that he loves more than anything else in the whole world that he’s allowed to get a little silly with it. like parker and hardison’s goober levels rub off some yknow?? and also he’s comfortable enough with them that he feels safe being a little goofy. he’s still big scary tough man on the job when he needs to be, and he’s still kinda grouchy and irritable in certain situations, but also he’ll sit at the opposite end of the couch from parker while he reads his book and he’ll just keep his mouth open while she tries to throw m&ms into it. and he gets really clingy and kinda giggly with hardison while they lay in bed after hardison gave it to him Good and the two of them are just spurred on and on by each other’s delirious laughter until they’re breathless and teary-eyed. and sometimes when parker’s bored and needs something to do with her hands eliot will let her mess with his hair and/or give him a manicure, so hardison will be working on a lego build at the table in the corner of the living room and when he glances up he’ll see eliot walking back into the room with a fresh cup of coffee and his hair in ribboned braids with his nails all neon and sparkly (maybe parker also gave him some dramatic eyeshadow to complete the look). and he’s been in the room enough times now while hardison watches spongebob reruns that they can go back and forth for like 10 minutes just quoting lines at each other (eliot does scary-good impressions of mr. krabs and plankton and they make parker fall apart every time). idk i just know he’s a big ol loser dork (affectionate) inside and i need him to loosen up enough to let that freak flag fly

thinking about this one again in the wake of this post and like. aaaAAAAAA it just makes me so sickkkkkkk bc eliot is so capable of being such a clown yknow!! he’s so sillaaaayyyyyyyy!! he’s such a dork!! he watches hardison play baldur’s gate and acts like he’s not interested but then they’re arguing about lore later bc yes he HAS been paying attention! hardison and parker beg him to do a throuples costume with them at an upcoming convention and eliot’s like yeah psh sure whatever and then he goes All-Fucking-In because if he’s gonna dress up he’s gonna dress UP! him and parker have a highly sophisticated system of what’s essentially modern hieroglyphics where they can hold whole conversations in just emojis! (she also gets him on the kaomoji train and he goes nuts with them half because he knows it makes her happy and half because he just thinks they’re cute alright he’s allowed that alright leave him alone alright!!) yes he is big scary grrrrr he could break your fingers he could kick your ass all the way to the moon, but he’s also so mushy, and he’s, like, hardison showing him one perfect video game away from having his own major geek awakening, and if parker bought him a bunch of bedazzled scrunchies he might initially be like now cmon park what is this but if she were to say oh okay then i can return them he’d be like Now Hold On Where Did I Say That. you can’t tell me the man doesn’t watch jeopardy for fun. and he reads just as much genre fic (especially old romance and detective novels) as he does nonfiction, and he talks parker and hardison’s ears off about both. like yknow??? idk he’s just like. he’s a very colorful man under the surface, and he just needs the right nudge to let that out a bit more. and p&h are exactly that nudge. with them he gets to be weird and he gets to play and he gets to have FUN. and he deserves to have fun ;____;
