TAYLOR SWIFT AND NARUTO. PLEASE.

"No, I’m not scared, I just—"

"Come on, Taylor!" Naruto howled from across the dusty plain. "Just one round! I’ll go easy on you this time!"

It was getting late, and the sun began to set behind the mountains. Only the faintly lit orange sky stood between Taylor, Naruto, and the dark of night. They would have to go back home, soon, Naruto knew, but he was determined. Just one more round. 

"Please? I’ll owe you as much ramen as you want for a whole week if we can go just one more time."

Taylor sighed. She was exhausted. They had trained all day, and all she wanted to do was go to bed. But the test was tomorrow, and she knew that if she failed this jutsu, Kakashi would never let her join Team 7.

Her breath was ragged, and she could feel the sweat falling down her face, but she clenched her fists, determined to make it. She couldn’t let her family down. Not like this. The entire Swift clan was counting on her to take their name back to the top.

It had been ages since they had fallen to ruin. All it took was one bad seed.

Just one.

Years ago, Taylor’s clan was one of the most respected in the village. They were powerful, and their Kekkei Genkei, Light Release, was both feared and admired by those around them. It was rarely seen, though, as it was deemed too harsh and completely unnecessary by the Swift leaders. But the Light Release passed into legend when Kageru Swift, the last of those able to achieve the Light Release technique, incinerated half the clan and a much bigger part of the village around them. Kageru was one of those boys who was always a bit scatterbrained and found himself in a lot of trouble as a child. He went through school being reprimanded daily, both in class and at home. It came to the point when he didn’t even mind. He just found the other’s anger and annoyance amusing. He started to enjoy goofing around, and his pranks became more and more malicious, and he began using jutsu more and more irresponsibly. The Light Release style was known to be incredibly difficult, but Kageru didn’t care. He began experimenting with it, taking advantage of it. But Kageru didn’t have the focus required to successfully execute his jutsu. One day, he decided it would be amusing to make his sister’s hair glow so bright that it hurt the eyes of those around her. He lacked attention, however and rather than using the light energy he created to illuminate his sister’s hair, he turned it to pure heat energy in an intense explosion that destroyed his own body, his family, and their reputation.

The remaining members of the Swift clan gave all they had left to the villagers in hopes of reconciliation, but it still wasn’t enough. They were banished from the village for 160 years, and weren’t permitted to set foot in the village any sooner than that.

135 years after that, John and Haruhi Swift gave birth to their daughter, Taylor Allison Swift. Being the youngest member of the ever shrinking clan, they knew that she would be the one to bring their family back into good standings with the village. Just days after her 25th birthday, they sent her to Konoha and made her the first Swift to set foot there in 160 years, hoping that she would be able to serve the community and earn the respect of its members. 

Their hopes were realized sooner than they expected when she befriended Naruto Uzumaki, an outcast like her. They understood each other and felt an immediate connection. He helped her train, teaching her every jutsu he could. He wanted nothing more than to help her regain respect for her family’s name.

Taylor pushed her blonde hair, damp and clinging to her forehead, away from her eyes. She took a deep breath.

"One more round," she said.

A smile flashed across Naruto’s face, and within an instant, the two charged each other. Taylor was the first to throw a punch, but Naruto was too fast, ducking under it, kicking her knee from behind. Her leg crumpled under her and she went down, but managed to save herself, tucking into a somersault. She sprung up before he could turn and began her first jutsu.

Her hands flew into the appropriate seals: Ram, Snake, Tiger.

"Clone Jutsu!" she cried. For a split second, her heart stopped. What if it didn’t work? What if I did the seals wrong? Inside, she panicked. But her heart leapt when she saw it. One—Two—Three clones! She did it! 

She caught herself smiling for a moment before she brought it back to a confident smirk. Naruto stopped, grinning wider than she thought he ever had.

"You did it! Aw man, you actually did it! Three clones, Tay! Yes!" He jumped up, thrusting his fists in the air, laughing, before he ran to her, pulling her into the tightest hug imaginable. He spun her around, and they let themselves laugh and celebrate for a moment.

"I wouldn’t get too cocky just yet."

Their ears perked up, both looking for the voice. From the shadows, Kakashi emerged, arms crossed. 

"Sensei!" Naruto exclaimed. "Did you see that? She did it!"

Taylor tensed a bit, anxiously picking at her nails. Her eyes were stuck on the ground near Kakashi’s feet.

"So, you did it, huh? Not too bad. But the test isn’t until tomorrow." His eyes narrowed. "Just make sure you get it right."

"Y-yes sensei…" she stammered. Her heart raced. The rigidity in his voice made her heart beat madly. She couldn’t have been more nervous. But when she looked at him, something changed. She could hear his sternness, but when she saw his face, she could tell that, even under his mask, he was smirking. She could see the smile in his eyes.

He put his hand on her head, lightly rubbing her hair.

"Good work today, Swift. I’m sure tomorrow will be fun."

He turned and left without looking back. She looked eagerly to Naruto, hoping he could read Kakashi better than she could.

"Does he—"

"Taylor, you’re so in," Naruto interrupted. 

Her heart leapt in her chest. Finally, she could do it. She could bring the Swift name back to its old place in the village. So many thoughts swam through her head, but she caught herself, knowing that she only had one thought that mattered at the moment.

Don’t fuck up tomorrow.
