Heya! I just read the article you posted about the fires in Saskatchewan. What started the fires? Is the situation something like what happens here in California, where wildfires start and then spread? Or, did something else start the fire?
They think lightning is the likely culprit for most of them. Summer’s barely started and we’ve had a series of heatwaves across western Canada. There are extreme fire warnings in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan. Anything that ignites is liable to spur huge forest fires. Its pretty scary.
Yeah wildfires are always a big risk here during the summer. In western Canada it tends to be fairly dry and hot, and often this spurs huge fires. Thankfully BC and the other provinces are less densely populated than California, so the human risk is lower.
In each province there are at least 100 forest fires burning. Its overwhelmed the Canadian Fire Fighters and they’ve had to call in reinforcements from the US.
Aside from the major evacuation in Saskatchewan there’s been a few smaller ones in BC too.
