Word: curiosity
Sorry for the delay on this! Life / a lack of ideas got in the way. But then I was thinking, who does curiosity really well? and obvs Mary Oliver came to mind so:
Banyan by Mary Oliver
Excerpt:
The cattle egret moved out into the sunlight, like so many pieces of white ribbon. The watersnakes slipped down banks like green hooks and floated away.
J/7 - Wild West AU. (I just really wish we could have seen them in cowboy get-ups on the holodeck ok lol)
It felt like years since the last lost soul travelled through their little town, and yet here she was: tall, blonde and dressed like a man in Kathryn's little shop. She stood by the counter, blue eyes sharp and focused on her, and Kathryn couldn't shake the unfamiliar feeling creeping up her spine. "Is there anything I can get you?"
(I agree okay, now I want this too what have you done)
Oh my gosh I LOVE your icon *heart eyes*
Uwah thank you! I honestly keep looking at it and melt every time.
for the guessing game: light
i wanted to wait until i had some j7 for u hehe
Seven’s never thought of Janeway as fragile before. She’s been battered and bruised, disheveled and left powerless by their foes, but even then, she seemed strong and formidable, like no matter what they faced, she’d always get them through it. And every time, no matter what, she’d done just that. But now, lying still and pale in the dim light, she seems somehow terribly small. Like she might disappear into the sheets. Like she might break, if Seven touched her like she longs to. She wants to confirm that she’s really here, because she looks so different from the Janeway she remembers. The Janeway she’d seen what seems like a lifetime ago, before she’d let her believe she’d died.
wip word guessing game

34. bauble
She thought about how funny it was this tiny little bauble could bring back such strong memories. It was just a piece of metal with tiny circuits inlaid in the grooves and yet she held it between aging fingers like it was ambrosia. It flashed in the lamplight and she remembered how enamored she’d been when they first met. She felt its soft edges and recalled when they both were so rough. Smiling, she placed the ocular implant back in its case then turned to see blonde wisps of hair falling on the arm of the couch. In truth, she loved those soft edges the best of all.
@queenology replied to your post: who’d have thought that writing becomes a million...
i feel like this is a problem i still have, and most of it ~is~ hinged on the notion of wanting to write the way i like reading. i’m happy you’ve managed to break free of this <3
like there are heaps of different storystrutures rather than just One Good One, and i like to read stuff in a bunch of different ways
but somewhere along the way i looked at a few broad trends and went ‘oh that’s Good Writing’ and expanding into that will make me More Sophisticated and it was to my detriment, bc didnt actually align w my natural rhythms
like obvi i still progressed and learnt, and it’s possible the only reason im able to write this way now is bc i did all that other work. but i shouldn’t have been thinking ‘how do i write within these parameters’ and instead asked myself ‘how do i write this story effectively’
would highly recommend it as general writing advice cos ive got so much more brain space now and it is Dope
