reposting for the early afternoon crowd, this is the “Sexy Dreams” music video by Spoonboy, featuring queer batman. TW for chest binding using ace bandages (very unsafe!! not endorsed!!).
see @spoonboy-sexydreams if you’re interested in the archived discourse about this video
So like I love when writers make it easy to inject queer subtext into their writing. Does most of my job for me.
(From Superman Heroes #1)
Going off the lgbt shop post, what if Alfred brought Bruce there? Did he bring him there after finding Bruce getting quieter, more tense, and more isolated from people? Was it after, one day, Bruce had a break down after school and cried in Alfred’s arms? Was it because in that moment, Bruce called himself disgusting for having a crush on a male schoolmate? Did he do it after Bruce, still a young child, looked at him for help as his only parent left alive? Did Alfred remember his time in MI6, where the people who saved the world were not straight and considered heroes?
How did he convince Bruce that being gay wasn’t a disease? How did he gently persuade him to go to the shop? Did he always go with Bruce to that shop? Was he proud of how much Bruce learned to accept himself for his sexuality?
Basically, I want Alfred to be the supportive parent to his gay son.
Hey guys, you know how people are like Bruce Wayne is gay as fuck? What if there is a small neighborhood in Gotham City that is run by an old trans woman that remembers years before of a small boy that walked in with a intimidating butler?
What if she remembers that her shop, filled with lgbt people, looking at the boy because he came from a rich neighborhood. Because the rich saw them as entertainment, they try to be wary of the boy. He is silent and tense, obviously uncomfortable. And then he goes to the woman, and asks what he, a gay child, should do.
What if, before he went on his “world tour,” he became a well known person in that shop. Everyone welcomed him openly and even tried to nurture him in a healthy environment, because they never had that. Imagine how sad and heartbroken they were when that child left the city after hearing about one of their people being murdered violently by a homophobic cop.
Imagine their pride when Batman saves one of them, and immediately recognize him as that little boy. Batman becomes their savior, and the woman puts a lot of gay pride merchandise that include him on them. One catch, none of them use their real names in the shop, only fake ones. They have to protect themselves; not everyone works at Wayne’s Enterprises. So Bruce doesn’t worry one of them yells “thanks Johnny!” His heart only aches to them the truth, but he knows the minute he shows his face, he might put them in danger from paparazzi attention.
What if that was a safe space for the lgbt people, and he could no longer go there because he would make it an unsafe space.
Do you remember when George Clooney said he played Batman as gay?
Well, I’m wading in, terrible ice puns and all. It’s been years since I’ve watched Batman & Robin, possibly in the last millenium. Let’s see if I can tell.
Wish me luck.
