Here we have in their unnatural habitat our LGBT+ society members joining in a drama workshop run by our lovely Scarlett. She taught us two exercises, where we would stand in a circle around one member and they would choose someone to represent one of the things that is stressing/worrying them and decide how much that thing is affecting their life. If it is affecting them a lot they would move that person representing that worry close to them and if it wasn’t worrying them that much they would move that person further away. And so on with the rest of the group they would go through whats worrying them. This gave them a visual understanding of how much they have got on their plates, hopefully make it all look more manageable. This exercise brought me to tears at the end of my go (not that that’s a hard thing to lol), but it helped me to let go of the stresses i was holding onto. 

The second exercise was called The Magic Shop (i enjoyed this one very much) When I got to play the Magic shop owner I stood in front of everyone who was lined up in front of me. I would ask if there is something that is bothering them that i could possibly help with. An example would be they said ‘Uni work’ and i would give them advice on how to help make the work more manageable and then do a silly action or dance move that ‘fixes’ the problem and the rest of the line would copy the action. This was a lot of fun and made us all laugh a lot. 

I would like to say thank you to our lovely Scarlett this workshop was very beneficial to our members, we love you very much!!  (even though you don’t like oasis, i guess you’re alright)

lastly would like to thank our lovely Rosy who always pulls through with lush homemade baked goods, this week... cupcakes with PURPLE icing ooo yes don’t mind if i do.

Sunday Queer Brunch! Arts & Crafts day! 

what a better way to relax and take your mind off uni stress than to do a bit of arts and crafts. Whether you considered yourself the next Picasso or the worst artist ever lived, all are welcome long as you’re up for giving it a go. Let your creativity go wild with the only structure of a paper plate and art&crafts materials. glitter everywhere!! 

One of our lovely members made us all rainbow cupcakes, mash mellow fudge and brownies which were fantastic. Very yummy! Very appreciated! 

We shall be doing another one of these soon as everyone enjoyed themselves immensely, possibly with toilet rolls are our next target. Recyclable art that’s where we are headed.

as you might be able to tell by the blogs name and title, my name is Dee Williams,and I’m a Photography student. 

Hi there, this blog is my way of documenting my creative journey throughout university. This includes trying out different photography techniques, for example in the next coming weeks I’m going to be trying out Polaroid. Also will be posting my experiments on here. This type of photography has so much meaning and emotive feelings to, capturing a solid memory in physical form that when touched the sense of nostalgia is sparked. 

Most of this work will be candid iPhone images of the Queer Brunch meeting, possible photo shoots and stories from the members of the society. 

I am open, honest and kind. Also very passionate about the prospects of this blog and society in general, hopefully with enough work on promotion we can do big and wonderfully queer things together. 

On a serious note, as a part of this society I will be doing a move towards making a group therapy kind of thing. I am very passionate about mental health and it becoming more easily accessible and less scary to talk about especially for queer folk but not excluding our allies. Being someone who understands the difficulties of mental health and going through all the ways to help myself get better, I hope to become some sort of confidant for people and when I cannot help them myself, to be able to direct them onto a happier path. 

Lastly, I would like to say welcome and come join me on this creative process :)

Hello, and welcome toooo Queer Brunch! 

The LGBTQ+ Society at the University of Northampton are up and running. We are here to create a safe space for all things queer, questioning and our loving allies. Tea, coffee and cake! what else could you want? 

(Speaking of which we are looking to do more fun things in our meetings, I’ll discuss this in a separate post.) I’ll make a link to it here

Over the last few meetings we have got to know a fair few of you lovely and interesting people. We have discussed everyone’s interesting facts about themselves and found that lots of us have talents of such, and the running joke but still a very fun idea of a talent show may be possible. 

We have so many possibilities for this fantastic group of people and I hope you can come along with me on this journey.
