mike/bill, where mike goes after leaving derry 👀
Bill feels his eyes close a little when Mike answers the phone, letting his voice wash over him with a sense of familiarity and longing, enjoying the way he says his name. “Yeah, hey, Mike,” Bill responds back, shifting slightly in his seat, “How are you? I’ve uh, I’ve been thinking.”
Mike remains quiet over the phone for a beat and Bill pulls his glasses off, thumb rubbing between his eyebrows. “I was thinking, if you’ve never been to California before, I uh - well I have space, lot’s of space - bachelor space.”
It’s an implication and a weird invitation all in one, but Mike seems to understand and he chuckles. “Well, I was thinking of visiting already, I guess I could show up earlier.”
Imagine going about your day knowing someone’s carrying you in their mind. That has to be the best part of being in love, the feeling of having a home in someone else’s brain. (Love, Simon / Leah On the Offbeat)

@queerbucky
- his first crush was on han you’ll pry this from my cold dead hands
- he was like five. han and leia came to visit his parents. he told his parents that he was going to marry han they kissed his forehead and told him that han was taken but they’re sure he would find a man even better.
- he was (is) UNBELIEVABLY stubborn like to the point that his parents would just GIVE UP fighting with him but this is also because they Raised Him Right and knew that if he was being that steadfast about something there was probably a reason so they would try and find out what that reason was so they could figure out what was going on instead of just grounding him or something
- was ALWAYS outside like came in to sleep and that was about it so when he was really young his dad started teaching him survival stuff so that he was safer and poe didn’t take to it as easily and quickly as he took to learning to fly with him mom but he was still a good student and loved spending time in the jungles with his dad
- also on that last one if he was around the ranch or not far into the trees like a 90% chance he was barefoot so the soles of his feet were super tough
- he never really came out to his parents but when he was about 14 he started dating a boy so he told his dad and kes just kissed him on the forehead and told him that he wanted to meet the boy and that his mom would be so happy for him (homophobia? in my space family? NOT A CHANCE!)
- he wasn’t really a troublemaker because he had a super good relationship with his parents but every once in a while he would sneak out to go to parties and stuff and like 100% of the time kes knew and as long as poe didn’t seem to be in danger he just sorta let it happen except for the time poe came home PLASTERED and kes made fun of him for being super hung over in the morning after making sure that no one drove while drunk (they didn’t. poe took everyone’s keys.)
- poe got into fights some as a kid but it was pretty much always to defend people from bullies and he asked kes to teach him to fight better so that he could help more people and kes taught him because he understood that he was never going to be able to talk poe into just sitting back
- kes gave him his mother’s ring on a necklace the day poe left for the flight academy and he’s never taken it off
the empress, death, the sun
the empress: do you think you will ever get married?
I do! My partner and I have talked about it a lot, actually. Basically the only thing stopping us right now is how bananas life has been the past year or so, and we want to get our finances a bit more under control. We don’t want a big wedding or anything, just something small with our families and maybe have a big party some time afterward. We’ve agreed that I basically just need to say “I want to get married now” and it’ll happen. I’m in no rush, though :)
death: what are three things you want to do before you die?
Get a novel published, have 2-80 dogs, travel to Ireland and Scotland (where my mother and father’s families are from, respectively).
the sun: do you believe in magic?
Yup!
queerbucky replied to your post “queerbucky replied to your post “The fact that Ellie and Alan aren’t...”
something else that annoys me about it is that ellie sattler is so passionate about her work, about discovery and paleobotany and dinosaurs, and i dislike the idea that she had to give up something she loved so she could be a mother - imagine ellie and alan as the paleontological version of amelia peabody and radcliffe emerson! bringing their kids along on digs! it would've been amazing
okay first of all the fact that you brought up emerson and amelia makes me fucking swoon
second you’re absolutely right. like i don’t see why they couldn’t have had a plucky little paleontology kid and brought them to their digs and carried them around and named a bone after them
tell me why one should read amelia peabody
i’m so glad you asked
1. Amelia Peabody herself. She is a gift to us all. She is five feet tall, a champion of women’s rights, a detective, a healer, and an amazing heroine. She carries a pistol when her husband isn’t looking, and a parasol always. She is fiercely loyal and protective of her family, and deeply invested in the well-being of her friends. She is flawed -- she gets overzealous about her investigations and will jump to ridiculous conclusions, but she will always admit when she is wrong. She is a superb woman, and a brilliant character.
2. Emerson. How do I love Emerson? Let me count the ways. He is tactless, loud, brash, and brilliant. He is terrible at making friends, but once he does he is as loyal as his wife, and deeply fond of every they bring into their family. He has an incredible capacity for kindness, but would prefer people to see him as unwavering, though not unfeeling. He is incredibly thoughtful, and as interested in solving the mysteries of the season as his wife. He loves a good disguise, and a good drink. He ruined me for men. He calls his wife “Peabody.”
3. Amelia and Emerson together. They are almost cloyingly passionate, but their love is tempered by their precious squabbling. Emerson hates to admit when Amelia is right, but only about things he doesn’t have patience for. They are constantly embracing and constantly making love, even well into their later years when their own son is grown and married. It’s very beautiful. They are beautifully loyal to one another. Emerson is softened by Amelia’s kindness, and she is often emboldened by his brashness. Together they make a formidable duo.
4. They are Egyptologists at a time when it is very popular to remove artifacts from tombs and bring them back to Europe or to sell them on the black market. They firmly believe in keeping the artifacts they discover in Egypt. The Emersons are also fluent in Arabic and are well loved by the Egyptians in their employ because they treat them with respect and as equals.
5. Elizabeth Peters (aka Barbara Mertz) was an actual archaeologist! She knew what she was talking about. None of the locations or the terminology or the setting is manufactured because she knew her stuff!
6. There are real people from real history in the books! Howard Carter is a friend of the Emersons! It’s very very cool!
7. The audio books. Oh man, I grew up listening to these on tape. When I read my worn out paperback copies these days, I hear the voice of Barbara Rosenblat, the woman who read the books and gave voice to these amazing characters. You’ve got to listen to at least one, but I guarantee you, it won’t be easy to stop there.
In conclusion: you absolutely must read these books because they are beautiful and perfect and wonderful.
